Hi guys,
I have a noise, a very annoyng noise from my beta 2000 that comes up at about 60mph to up.
Is it a sort of uuuuouuuouuouuouuooooouoooo  Huh?
I know the noise of the wheel bearing and it doesn't sound like this; the noise is alway present in 4th, 5th gear and in neutral too..
The car has 120.000 miles; someone of you has got a problem like this?
Some years ago, my Beta start to do this sound only over 80 mph on speedway when turn to the left;
in the last year it always sound, even when I go straight (over 60-70 mph)
I think that can be differential bearings, or CV joints..
But CVjoints when worn seem to sound like a "tickling" or am I worng?
What can you think?
thanks a lot!
Dan

P.S Oil level in the gearbox is ok and fully changed last year

At the risk of sounding daft is it the speedo/speedo cable? Mine is noisy but only between certain speeds and not in 1st or 2nd (the insulation has been burnt off by it previously laying on top of the exhaust manifold). I assume that you have knocked the car into neutral at the 'noisy' speed, hence ruling out the gearbox? Worn CV joints are usually more noticable when cornering.

Thank you Neil for your answer;
speedo cable seems to be ok..The noise has a low frequency..is like a wheel bearing but seems to come from the center right of the engine..
Is like a very low, cicling "uuuuuuuu"
Yes, at the noisy speed, if I knocked the car in neutral, the noise is always present..

If the noise comes from the "centre right" of the engine, it could be the bearing for the intermediate shaft.

One of the troubles with the Beta is that odd noises get transmitted about the car. Another rogue noise on my car was a dying water pump bearing which manifested itself as a dull whirr in the middle of the dash.

Neil

I would expect this to be dif bearings. The good news is they are cheap and available from the Monte Hospital. Hot a hugely difficult job if you have a Haynes manual a hydraulic puller and a press or know someone that has!

Cheers

Thank you guys..
I already know the water pump noise because I've another beta with the pump worn and is different  Embarrassed
I can't afford by myself the changing of diff bearings..I've not that kind of skill..I've to take the car to a specialist..

So, do you think that can be this, right?

Number 5 bearings here

Beta coupe 2000 and beta montecarlo are the same?

Yes

2 x number 5 will do nicely, but fit new oil seals to the output shaft cover plates if you can whilst it is apart.
