Hi,

I've been offered a Spider bonnet.  Question is...Are all bonnets the same?  I know the VX has power bulge, but are they all the same for the rest of the range?

Thanks in advance,

John.

Hi John

Short of looking up the different parts, there are essentially 3 types as far as I know for the Spyder

1 - S1 and S2 pre f/l 1600 has two grills and thin raised strip up the centre

2 - S2 pre f/l 2000 and then all S2 f/l has larger raised section with single grill

3 - VX bulge version

In UK there were no IE or VX version Spyders sold. I believe the bonnets for the Coupe, Spyder and HPE share the same bonnet, but could be mistaken.

The only other difference is the two pins that stop the bonnet riding up onto/into the windscreen in an accident. You would need these on an ie really. Did they come in with the facelift or later? Don't know if they can be retro-fitted to an earlier bonnet.

I think those pins were only officially fitted on North American cars, there was a discussion about it a while back. Well worth fitting on any car that has the thread inserts for them and I believe (could be wrong) that all the late style bonnets had threads fitted.

Picked up the bonnet tonight...small rust blemish on front edge, which will require a small repair plate..but that's it.  Also came with the flat hinges, therefore I will be able to fit the series 2 grill...Chuffed!
