Hi all, recently pulled the fuel tank from my 77 Coupe and found that the float for the sender unit is actually a wine cork!
Is that normal, or should it have some sort of plastic float?
Also, when I bought the car and first drove it home, when the second barrel of the carb opened under full throttle, the engine would bog down badly like it was running out of fuel.
It has a small electric fuel pump under the right hand rear, could it be on the way out?
All the hoses around the pump are split so it could be drawing air while its under full pressure.
What sort of pumps are they? And are they regularly available?

Sounds like a non standard pump. European Carb cars usually have an engine mounted mechanical pump. Could be the accelerator pump (replacable rubber gland) or a blocked full throttle jet causing the trouble. Pumps tend to deliver at a fixed rate into the float chamber so I'd suspect the carb before the pump. Either way you'll need to replace any suspect pipes.

I don't know, it looks standard, it's actually concealed under a little cover just in front of the tank.
It's an "Ecco" branded pump. Never heard of it.
The engine block doesn't look like its had a pump in it.
The carb wants doing up anyways so I'll cover all bases.
