What is the best material for a sump gasket? I'm intending to fit my sump to the block in the next few weeks and my gasket set has a rubber sump gasket. I'm aware that cork sump gaskets are also available - which is the most suitable material?

My instinct says rubber but I don't know the technicalities or if I'm right. You can change the fixing method for the sump to nuts and studs which is, if I recall correctly, the GC preferred method

Yes, I've already decided that fixing will be by studs and nyloc nuts. My instincts would also say rubber for the gasket.
