Title: Strut Bodies
Post by: lanciamad on October 08, 2009, 10:21:09 AM
Could anyone tell me the length between the spring platform and the base of the rear strut body on a beta coupe ???
I'm hoping there is no difference between this length and the HPE, and they differ only in the legth of tube between the spring platform upwards ???

I'm fairly sure I've seen them fitted to an hpe or at least the strut top mount not sure which /i have a pair of coupe konis off the car so will measure if I get chance but a bit busy at the moment with other things to get in the garage

I think the figure i'm hoping for is around the 405mm mark.

To clarify.....does the HPE or the Coupe have the longer rear strut.

One thread seems to suggest it's the coupe with the longer one,yet the pic on this thread of the coupe strut looks like the shorter one.

I've got one of each on mine ::)

Well as no-one else wants to.....i'll clarify for myself.

It's definately the HPE with the longer strut.  ;)

You're right the rear strut from the HPE are the same as the Berlina and Trevi, coupe and spyder have shorter one. At the front Berlina and Trevi have the longer one and HPE, Coupe ans Spyder shorter one.

My 'suspect' rear strut is shorter than the good one that I was fairly sure was original. Also doesn't the coupe sit higher than the HPE/Trevi at the back? The strut turrets on the coupe certainly intrude into the boot more than in the HPE/Trevi. Still confused.

that might be an illusion the coupé is a fair bit lower than an HPE or Trevi

as you can see (sorry quickly taken photo!) length from the upper bottom mounting bolt to the top of the body should be about 560mm on a coupé and 606mm on an HPE ignore that I think the tech data is confusing!! but I still think the coupe strut is shorter

The strut itself I would say is shorter, as the inserts are shorter for coupe's than the HPE's. Whether it sits higher at the back compared to a HPE I wouldn't like to say. Who's got standard suspension and a tape measure? ;)

Don't think there's much in it, if anything i'd say the coupe sits slightly lower.

The strut bodies are different between Coupe/spider and HPE/Saloon/Trevi ones.
Length from the bottom of the spring platform on all models are the same, but length above the platform is different. HPE Etc has a longer body overall.
Sealed units are also shorter than insertable ones.

The springs in the HPE are also are longer  than that of the coupe but virtuallty identical to the saloon/trevi. Ride height is almost the same across the range.

If you put coupe springs and struts in a saloon you will lower the ride height, the position of the strut (f&R) top is higher on the saloon . (therefore the same as the rear HPE).

Has anyone out there done this? Interesting to lower sedan ride height, but wondering about effect on ride and handling. I fear it may not be as sporting or stiff, as coupe's are lighter cars. Just brewing up ideas here.... real world feedback appreciated.

never seen it done however I suspect you might have suspension travel issues I think the main reason for the different struts is to take account of the fact that you actually can get an adult into the seats in an HPE or Berlina!
