Title: Beta Meeta 50th anniversary
Post by: TonyLanciaBeta on February 06, 2021, 05:44:20 PM
Bookings now open, see updated post below.

Beetameeta 50th anniversary
9th-11th September 2022
UK location/hotel still to be confirmed, when the current covid situation improves.

We have set a date for the 50th anniversary meet in 2022, so not to clash with the French Beta meet, which we are all really looking forward to attending.
Weekend hotel packages will be available, also on the Sunday we are hopping to be able to open it to everyone, subject to finding a hotel with enough parking.
More details as soon as we know.
Also all details will be on web page we made for the event: www.lanciabeta50.com (http://www.lanciabeta50.com)

Thanks Tony

Exciting that it's all looking promising (touch wood!) for my beta to be ready.

The wife is already asking if the hotel has a spa  ;D

Hi Stuart

Sadly not as my only working one will be with me in Italy on these dates.

Only a few bits to get it finished in time!

You could try asking for an extended test drive over that weekend for one that is for sale!

Badly  - or at least very slowly. That's rather the problem. Just too much other **** going on at the moment to spend good time on it and my determination to do things 'properly' means there's no short cut.  Getting stuck in Aberdeen for three days more than planned didn't help either!

Hi Stuart

That is a long way from home and sounded pretty grim up that way. Sort of interesting, I was in Aberdeen when the big storm hit the South of England in the 1980s when I lived West of London. We were fortunate that the main areas of damage were south of us, but still pretty scary for the wife.

Excellent, booked in the calendar, kids want to come & my old mum has even expressed an interest in driving the spider down (if I can make the indicators work!!! yes... still at it!)

I will definitely be in the Orange one & may also have my non Beta legal by then so there is a possibility of the Spider or Coupe being 'spare' for a while Stuart.

You are more than welcome if I can make it happen.

We need to get as many Beta's there as possible, 50 would be good :)

Cheers Tony

Tim,

I'd have to owe you several pints for that. I reluctantly have to conclude mine will not be ready in time and I need to be in something at least Italian but with the Alfa sold my options are a little limited!

Title: Re: Beta Meeta 50th anniversary
Post by: WestonTB on January 20, 2022, 10:38:10 PM
Maybe 'a' pint, the spider is lovely but it is no Eric Weston standard machine! Hopefully submitting the Hawk for it's IVA test asap, then get the Spider in the garage for the indicator Sherlock Holmes fix and away we go, only problem is I will have to give my Mum the choice first of Coupe or Spider, you are welcome to either and I will tag along (hopefully) in the Hawk.

Jacob has his Coupe but that has more holes than the Turin shroud so we will keep that one for the 60th !

Great news, bookings are now open for the UK Beta 50th celebrations weekend, happening the weekend of Sept 9th-11th, I would like to thank Amanda Dodge who has agreed to organise the booking again, anyone who made the 40th weekend in Norfolk 2012 will know what a great job Amanda did organising that weekend.
We have initially booked 20 rooms, we will try to get more if needed, but we have been told by the hotel that Weddings are filling up very quickly, so will need to book asap to secure a place, below is the brief info for the weekend, with more info and booking form etc on our website below, if you have any questions please feel free to comment here or message me.

LANCIA BETA 50TH ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND
Sept 9th-11th 2022
2022 sees the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the amazing Lancia Beta.
To celebrate this, we are delighted to now be able announce details of a full weekend event package - designed and created around the Lancia Beta and its owners.
Set in delightful rural Oxfordshire, we have booked the Milton Hill House Hotel near Abingdon. This beautiful venue offers easy access from the M40 and M4 motorways, and the A34 trunk route.
For those of you who remember the fabulous 40th anniversary celebration back in 2012, we have managed to keep the price this time almost the same - plus add value into the package too.

Weekend kindly sponsored by Betaboyz Lancia Beta parts and  Auto Italia Magazine.

Friday 9th: Arrive at the Milton Hill House Hotel from 2pm onwards, there will be an informal evening BBQ (or indoor buffet depending on the weather) followed by a light hearted General, Motoring and Lancia related quiz.

Sat 10th: and a hearty full English Breakfast in the hotel restaurant, we will all meet up by our cars for final titivation, before heading off on a tour through beautiful Oxfordshire. A nice relaxed pace, and you will have clearly printed comprehensive route map. We will all then end up somewhere very exciting, where we will spend the afternoon exploring.
Saturday evening, we will all enjoy a formal Italian themed Gala Dinner at the Hotel (menu options to be advised). There will be an interesting after dinner speaker for all to enjoy, and afterwards, we can decamp to the Bar for post dinner nightcaps.

Sun 11th: After another fabulous breakfast, there will be a morning presentation entitled "Know your Beta". This workshop style presentation will cover the intricacies of the Beta model range and should clarify the differences between the various versions, series and facelifts! It will be open to any day visitors who wish to attend.
And after this we will decamp to display our cars, where we hope many day visitors will join us with their Betas too. We will have a Beta display area where we can get our Beta's together - lets aim for at least 50 Betas for Beta 50th. There will be prizes - some for the shiny Betas, some for the most used Betas, some for the most interesting Betas.....etc. You get the idea.

We will have the Classic Car press in attendance. There will be some lovely photo opportunities of Betas together, and again, it's a great opportunity to meet up with fellow Beta enthusiasts. There will be other Lancia enthusiasts too, as we hope to have other Lancias joining us too.
After the prize giving, we will say our "good-byes" and journey home. Full of happy memories of a weekend well spent.

The package price for all the above for a couple sharing a twin or double room, to include your Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and Friday and Saturday dinners is just £395.
Family Room Rates, Doggie rates and One Night package are available on request
For more info and booking and details please see our website: www.lanciabeta50.com (http://www.lanciabeta50.com)

Hi

Tony has mentioned that the hotel is not really offering single room rates and that sharing would make sense.

I just wondered how many other folk will be going solo like myself?

Peter

I'll be solo.
However, I would not want to subject a roomie to my snoring,
so solo I shall remain!

Hi
Sorry about the problem getting a single supplement, we rang the hotel again today and they won't budge on that  :-[
They also have put pressure  on us to get bookings in, as they are getting calls daily for weddings.
We have signed a contract to take 20 twin/doubles, of which 10 are already booked, once we reach 20 bookings we are hoping they will allow us more rooms, but we are competing  with weddings so they cannot guarantee it.

If you would like to attend the weekend please book as soon as you can.

All the best Tony Harrison.

Beta 50th anniversary weekend plans coming along nicely 🙂
We have fulfilled our 20-room allocation, which is fantastic, if anyone else would like to join us, we are now able to take your booking form to reserve your space, with payment due by the end of May.
There are still rooms available at the moment, but as said before we are competing with wedding bookings.
To book just fill in the booking form on our website and email it to Amanda (details on the page)

I'm sorry to report that we won't be able to make the Anniversary meet up, as we have friends booked to stay with us in France and the dates clash. There's also the fact that it's very unlikely that I'll have a working Beta by that date, but you never know - miracles do happen...  The Sunday also coincides with our wedding anniversary (but a rather more modest number than 50).

Stuart, it will be done in a few weeks & you must use it!

Hope to see you all soon,

Great news 32 weekend rooms booked, with nearly 70 people staying the weekend  ;D

Also more good news, no weddings are planned for the weekend, so we should almost have the place to ourselves.
We are currently working on the Sunday itinerary, so we can start pushing that, would be great if we can get at least 50 Betas in one place, think we managed 35 for the 35th and just under 40 for the 40th, but the last couple of years has seen a lot of Beta's being put back on the road, and also imported into the UK so X fingers.

The Sunday will be free to join in, more details soon.
We are still taking weekend bookings, see website for full details.

Cheers
Tony.

I will probably try to join in on Sunday. I first registered for the whole weekend, but then found out that my parents-in-law are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary that friday, so if I ever want to be able to celebrate my own 50th wedding anniversary, I had to cancel. But after the Beta weekend in France, I want to miss the UK event even less, so I will do my best to make it on Sunday!

Hi all,

If all goes well, I will be attending on Sunday in my HPE.
Just one question; at some point the car will probably need fuel in the UK. Which brand of petrol station and which type of petrol that is guaranteed ethanol free do people recommend...? Just wanting to be sure as it's different per country apparently. Shell for instance guarantees that its V-Power is ethanol free in the Netherlands, but not here in Belgium...

Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone on Sunday  :)

Just a quick note to those coming for the Sunday, as the hotel will not be selling food on that day, it is recommended you bring your own, or close by you will find lot’s local shops/pubs, here are just a few.

-The Packhorse pub 4 min walk from the hotel 01235832323
-The Applecart Beefeater 4 min drive 01235835168
-The Wheatsheaf Inn 6 min drive 01235833229
-Your Co-op Food 8-10 High St, Steventon, Abingdon OX13 6RS  4 min drive

The hotel Bar will be open, also selling tea/coffee.
We look forward to welcoming you over the weekend, weekend booking closed, but still time to plan your trip for Sunday, everyone welcome, with or without a Beta.

I suppose I am not the only one slow to surface this morning. Hope everyone got home ok - as if old cars left in the sun all day and a long way from home would do such a thing!

I just wanted to add my vote of thanks to the organising team- superb job.

I really enjoyed myself and it was great to meet old and new Beta friends. The car (or me for that matter) hadn't been out for a while, so it was great to be there.

I won't bore everyone with my photos- not that I took many - I was too busy looking - and talking!

Can I add my thanks to all the organisers of Beta 50 for a terrific weekend. We only managed to make the Sunday, but it was well worth the 8 hour plus round trip from North Yorkshire. To see so many Betas in one place was remarkable and testament to the hard work you have all put in.

I'd like to also thank all those people who brought dogs with them. They kept Caraline distracted while I wandered and chatted - I think Minnie was her favourite!

Cheers

Carl

Good to meet some of you yesterday and thank you for the tips & pointers to start my Spider project restoration - it's going to be a long haul but hopefully by the time the 60th comes around, it might be ready and if it looks half as good as some of the spiders that attended yesterday, I would be more than happy!
Well done to everyone involved in putting this on

May I echo thanks to all the committee for the superb organisation of this
past weekend. I understand that a couple of things were left out due to
Thursday afternoons sadness, but it didn't show, kudos to you all.

The hotel staff were brilliant, always a smile and very helpful.

It was truly awesome to see so many examples represented, and especially good
that many left-hookers travelled so far to be there.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Friday quiz, and had our team employed a little
more skulduggery we may well have.....ehem....na, maybe not.

Andy's "differences" talk on Sunday was very well presented, and left me knowing
a lot more.

Thankfully I had a fast and mostly jam-free trip back.

The quality of the cars was incredible and left me wanting to build another garage for more Betas. It was great to see so many old friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen in twenty years.

Beta 50th Anniversary weekend, wow what a weekend  :D
Thank you to everyone who came along, with owners coming from all over the UK, France, Holland, Belgium, and Guernsey, also massive thanks to Amanda, Andy, Mark and John for their joint help putting this together.
Also thanks to Betaboyz parts and Auto Italia Magazine for sponsoring the weekend, Auto Italia have said we can have a 3 page feature in their magazine.

We were hoping we might get 50 Beta’s for the 50th unbelievably we managed 65 on Sunday.

We wanted to get some drone footage for the Sunday but we were let down, 10am Sunday morning, a quick phone call From Beta owner Chris Mace to his good friend Nige Forshaw from Rubicon Drones and we were good to go just before midday, huge thanks to Chris and Nige for making this possible, I’m sure you will agree his 4k video sums the day up perfectly Please feel free to share and give his page a like 👍

I can highly recommend Rubicon Drones, very prompt and professional service.

Also from my part a big thanks for organising this great event. I drove around 1.000 kilometers in 36 hours just to be there on Sunday, but I would certainly do it again! Proud to have been the (only) Belgian representative   :D
I too was amazed by the quality of the cars, and enjoyed meeting and talking to some of you in real life.

Also nice to see Nigel, Howard and Claude again after meeting them in France.
And thanks to Peter for bringing his spare Spider rear bumper, it will absolutely improve the look of my Spider!

My HPE performed perfectly the whole trip, of which I enjoyed every minute; what great cars they are, aren't they? 😊

Best regards,
Kevin

Not only does the done footage look brilliant Tony but I think also adds kudos to the event. Great call to have it and big thanks to the guys who stepped in to recover the situation and produce this great footage!

Agreed with the comments above  - it looks like it is very professional. The vertical overhead shots in particular are stunning  - definite wall calendar material.

I know it wasn't free. We're not a 'club' as such but it would be fair to ask people to chip in towards it if they want to. Lets face it for those of use that choose to run second or third 'fun' cars a tenner or so isn't going to break the bank. I'd happily pay that just for access to the stills.

Good call Stuart, I too was thinking that some contribution to the costs would be appropriate, so Tony, what do you think?

Hi
It was not a cost we factored in when we priced the weekend price, when Chris said to me his friend might be available it was too good an opportunity to turn down, and sums up the day perfectly.

The cost for the drone footage was £295, Rubicon Drones sent me the video in 4k plus 40 hi-res aerial photos (around 7mb each) which all look stunning.
I will be putting up a link to my website to download all of the above free of charge, as a thank you to everyone who came along, and made the day it was.
We are happy to cover the above cost, but if anyone wants to make a small donation, feel free to send a forum donation (on the tab above) which will be used to keep to forum running.

Thanks Tony, Amanda, Andy, Mark and John (the Beta 50 team)

Oh , & of course Mark and Debbie!!!  How you juggle full time work with full time Beta work is worthy of a medal!!!

Sorry the pic is squished, I aim to never understand computers or cameras that magically 'work' ? without film. :)

An article that I wrote about the meet was published in this month's Viva Lancia. Word version attached for anyone who does not get the magazine. Disappointing that they didn't include any of Tony's photos as suggested, but probably partly my fault for referencing the Forum.

For referencing the forum??

There are some aspects of the LMC that aren't terribly admirable.

Agreed- a missed opportunity by the LMC.

Great articles by the way Neil.

What I meant was that by me referencing the (LMC) Forum the editor interpreted that I didn't think he needed to put the photos in the magazine. As said, he missed out on publishing some excellent photos.......

So is mine,.... well....if you squint hard enough
you'll see the red roof under the tree!

The best looking cars were quite rightly leading to the lawn.
and Kevin, yours is one of the best imho. It's a shame you
didn't get to the front of the 'big' shot! Next time....

Thanks Nigel, I appreciate that  8)
I wish it was as perfect as Louise Kennedy's red HPE though – luckily that one has it's steering wheel on the wrong side for me, otherwise I would have been very tempted (it was for sale).
