Title: Scrap or not??
Post by: smithymc on June 29, 2020, 06:51:55 PM
I have had this very nasty engine since it came free with a box of gaskets and bits from one of Tim's Stratos mates. Not sure of its source model. there is oil in it( with probably some water if it was stored outside with the head off which appeared the case)

I am not going to do anything with it- if indeed anyone could-and am tired of injuring myself climbing over it.

So, if you think its saveable, you are welcome to it- otherwise its the scrapyard I think.

Opinions??

Mark

My opinion is the head is scrap - the block can probably be saved. If it's a 2.0 it's worth pulling the crank and oil pump out to see if they are fit for re-use.

What happened to No.2 Cylinder though? That looks like really bad detonation damage.

Hi Mark

I would be interested in it as the casting nos shows it to be a 1.8 which is very rare in the UK. The head looks to be toast however. Not sure how I would get it from you at this time however, so if it needs to be moved on so be it.

Hi Pater

If you would like it, it’s yours.

Not sure about getting it to you as I have been doing little travelling for obvious reasons. If I’m going North I’ll see if I can divert( I have the idea you are somewhere up the A1, but may have that wrong?). Likewise if you are ever this way or know someone else who is, let me know.

Best wishes

Mark

Hi Mark

A1 correct, but Grantham area, so pretty much across the country from you. Like you I do not travel around now, especially with the current situation, so if you feel the need to move it on, not a problem. It may of course just be scrap anyway. I will put it down until then as one I need to try to get to.....

Thanks

Peter

Hi Mark ,

Don't scrap it!!!

Had a good chat with Guy Croft last year and he says cranks are getting scarce, I personally think the days of scrapping Lampredi's are long gone.
If you change your mind peter I will collect it anytime but don't scrap it please!

Not worried about the covid too much as we live next to Eyam so I think I'm immune ?!?  :)

Hi Tim

If you wanted to save it, feel free as not likely to be Mark’s way for the foreseeable. My main reason for keeping is that it is a 1.8 which is rare in the UK and an interesting option for early cars.

It may of course be scrap....

Peter

Hello all.

I still have this 1800 engine and head . It may not now fit in with Peters plans so is anyone else interested?

Mark.
