Title: Fuel tank issues on series one coupe.
Post by: betasulo on December 29, 2019, 05:58:35 AM
Dear all,

My series one coupe fuel tank tends to over flow out of the fuel filler cap area even with about a quarter tank fuel .This happens when the car has been sitting in the sun for awhile. It is also very difficult to fill up at the pumps as fuel tends to back up if fill up is not done extremely slowly. It is possible the baffles in the fuel tank were removed when it was repaired by a previous owner.
I also don't seem to have any of the venting which the Haynes book shows.

Any advice or suggestions given will be highly appreciated.
Regards
Sulo

Sounds like a venting issue, I can't see how removing the baffles would cause this. They just stop excessive slosh when cornering.

I agree with Neil

This sounds like the vent pipes are blocked or the vent valve has failed or been reversed.

Try sucking through the vent pipe with it removed from the tank. If you can't work back until you find the issue. Sometimes the mud shield is missing behind the arch and the pipe is blocked.

Good luck.

Eric
