Title: '77 HPE front Struts
Post by: sintku on August 09, 2016, 12:22:36 PM
Hi everyone, would appreciate some help.
Working on a '77 Beta HPE and currently dismantling front struts. Is it normal for the coil spring to be bent towards the inside of the car when mounted in the strut. I find this unusual but the way the strut and top part are angled actually encourage this stance.
Much appreciated.

No, it is not normal. Something is wrong, bent. Try to disassemble then you will be able to judge.

I think I have understood the problem. Previous owner has taken off half a coil from the spring. Top mount is facing the wrong way. Need to decide if to try and find replacement springs or cut off another half coil. Anyone has any idea if that would lower the front too much?
Thanks.

I think you'd be hitting the stops a lot with another half cut off.

I'd look for standard ones or get a set made - they are not very expensive
