Title: Alternative windscreen wiper motor?
Post by: Hawk on March 24, 2014, 02:43:21 PM
Do any other wiper motors fit the Beta?

A coupe of years ago, my spyder actually failed the MOT on slow wiper speed until I appealed - pointing out that it was pissing it down with rain outside and I had driven to the test centre (they are significantly quicker if the screen is wet).

It has always been OK in the wet (not great but .... ) and has never really bothered me.  I have cleaned all of the connections / checked earths etc but still really slow - and only 1 speed (haven't wired in a relay).

Last week they hardly worked at all and, although I haven't checked, I have a feeling that the motor may have died.

Has anyone had any luck in fitting a different motor?  Or is the advice to persevere with a Beta motor?

I've always found the Beta wiper motor slow, I've not researched an alternative but there must be some some from the Fiat family that's suitable.

I suspect that a lot of issues are related to the electrical supply and voltage drop, have you composted the voltage at the motor to battery voltage? Secondly I would look at all the mechanical bits as after all those years any grease in them may have dried out and solidified.

Possibly it just wasn't a priority?

I remember the wipers on my Talbot Sunbeam were by far the most effective part of the car. Something to do with where they were built perhaps?
