Title: Fun & Games
Post by: MattNoVAT on April 22, 2012, 05:22:48 PM
In preparation for the next few events I decided to get the starter motor swapped over because it has a tendency to just "click"  a couple of times before engaging and actually starting.

I was given a brand new OEM Lancia starter and told it was for a Beta. Exact same size, same mountings etc so in it went.  All went well except for the actual starting. It did start pretty much instantly but it made a horrendous screeching noise when it did.

Took it off and the cog turned out to be slightly smaller :-(

Fitted a spare starter that was up in the garage loft, which I know has a similar clicking issue to the one that was originally fitted so the spare is now going to the recon people and I'll have it sorted properly.

I also forgot to fit the bracket for the clutch return spring.

Still at least I have nearly a dozen cuts & scrapes for my efforts!!

On the positive side I've tidied up and sorted a lot of spares in readiness for the parts from the S3 coupe that I'm about to break.

I used to have the same issue on my VX. Turned out to be the black, round (8 pin?) connector which is under the distributor. Cleaned this and have had no further issues.
