Title: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: 75coupe on September 30, 2010, 01:28:41 PM Hi All,
Just thought I'd post a link to a video clip of my first ever track event, the "Ironman Sprints" at Queensland Raceway after rebuilding my engine. I have competed in a lot of hillclimb events successfully The car ran fine and certainly gave my recently fitted uprated radiator, oil cooler and accusump a work out - shame I only manged to run the engine in for 260km before giving it a thorough thrashing..... By the end of the day I had done nearly 30 laps of the clubman circuit, given my Toyo R888's a hammering and had no brakes after the end of the 1st lap! Fortunately the circuit is 12m wide and has generous run off areas.... Managed to clock nearly 185km/h at 6600rpm in 4th at the end of the pit straight!! The car was fast enough despite no brakes and massive understeer to beat the oposition in the 1600-2000 cc road registered class, outdragging a modified 2 litre Nissan Pulsar with (supposedly)180+BHP, MGF, hotted up Fiat 124 Spider and an early Honda Integra type R. fastest lap was 68 secs. The track has certainly showed up more weaknesses, mainly the brakes, lack of LSD and suspension which will be on the list of forthcoming mods. here is one of the clips:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR2jmYLH4JI Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: redvxcoupe on September 30, 2010, 02:55:18 PM Hi All, Just thought I'd post a link to a video clip of my first ever track event, the "Ironman Sprints" at Queensland Raceway after rebuilding my engine. Are you using BB uprated springs? Tore Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: lanciamad on September 30, 2010, 06:50:34 PM Loving the understeer, good man! :D
Best i've got out of mine is 109 mph (175 km/h) so far, so your taking it to a new level. Thinking of doing a track day myself on the 27th of November! They might have to grit the circuit before we go out :-X Is that flocking to the top of your dash out of interest? I don't think I inserted the link properly, if you copy the link and paste it into the top line of your browser it will work.Loving the understeer, good man! :D Yes the top of the dash was cracked, so I glued some black carpet (similar to th etype used to cover speaker enclosures) to the top to hide it! Actually the car is actually a series 1, but I fitted a S2 FL dash to it as I personally prefer it to the earlier type! I also ditched the radio and made up an alloy plate for aftermarket gauges.Best i've got out of mine is 109 mph (175 km/h) so far, so your taking it to a new level. The eagle eyed have noticed I have no oil pressure and water temp on the instrument cluster, that is because I have used more accurate aftermarket items and have fitted the senders for these in place of the in the original senders. The springs and shocks are BB lowered and spax inserts. My main suspension concern is dialling out the understeer on turn in, as I can't seem to get lift off oversteer out of this one, only when the boot is loaded to the gunnels with stuff! I think a proper 4 wheel alignment is in order. A track day in November sounds interesting Marcus, perhaps you can use studded tyres.... to insert a video, just paste the youtube address into your post making sure there is a space before the http Lancia Beta coupe at Ironman Sprints Queensland Raceway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR2jmYLH4JI#) Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: thecolonel on October 01, 2010, 12:00:32 AM nice video, two questions :
were you using the new clutch and what was the general afr reading ? Geoff Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: Neil-yaj396 on October 01, 2010, 08:57:47 AM The engine sounds superb. Which gear ratios did you go for in the end? The power bands sound spot on so you must have got it right.

Geoff Yes I am using the Spec clutch which seems fine so far. A/F ratio is around 11:1 when running flat out (a bit rich). I tried leaner jets to bring it to 13:1 full load, but did not seem quite as powerfull. on light load it varies between 12.6 to 15:1 which is not bad. I am trying to organise a rolling road session to check these figures as I am not sure exactly how accurate the sensor is - although it is the latest Bosch wideband type. The engine sounds superb. Which gear ratios did you go for in the end? The power bands sound spot on so you must have got it right. Gear ratios are standard 2 litre Beta. To be honest 1st needs to be a bit taller as I get a lot of wheelspin and have to modulate the throttle quite a bit to control it. A LSD is planned which should help Ian Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: 75coupe on May 21, 2012, 02:28:32 PM Dear All,
Another trackday debut, this time at the great Lakeside Park track in Queensland, Australia, an undulating 2.4 kilometre (1.59) mile track. This was my first attempt at a "regularity" event, where you have to nominate a lap time, and then you lose points the further away you are from your nominated time. MY nominated time after a frustrating practice was 1 min 12 secs. Unfortunately I got bored of the traffic and started to go faster & faster......Lapped a few MG's, a Triumph GT6 and a Mustang twice......Fastest lap was 1 min 7 secs, could have gone faster with a clear track..... I fitted some Ferodo DS2500 front pads and these seemed to hold up well especially as I was pulling nearly 125MPH at the end of the Pit straight. (STD Beta Discs/Calipers) Turned the front discs blue though..... The video is a bit long I'm afraid at 20 mins, but it gets better towards the end.... http://youtu.be/tEOawdTD6kY (http://youtu.be/tEOawdTD6kY) A few photos too: Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: LanciaNut69 on May 21, 2012, 11:58:20 PM Love that shot of your car on the move! Fantastic!!

Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: 75coupe on September 08, 2012, 01:36:46 PM Hi All,
Just took part in the "Festival of Italian Motorsport" did a few laps, overtook some Fiats and Alfas, and a Ferrari 355....(must be the new Guy Croft 3A cams....) or maybe he didn't have his foot buried like I did! A great fun day but made me realize there are some seriously fast Alfa GTVs out here that are "proper" race cars, and whilst I could keep up on the straights, they had far superior traction out of the corners. Need that LSD now more than ever, or do I really need RWD? Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: Grundo on September 25, 2012, 10:43:05 PM Your car looks great. Well done.
What wheels are you running? I am interested in getting some new wider track and larger diameter rims and yours seem to work well so any info would be appreciated. Title: Re: Beta coupe on its debut trackday outing Post by: 75coupe on September 26, 2012, 07:35:21 AM Hi
There is a thread in the wheels and Tyres section about this, (had what offset in the title I think???) I am running Rota 15x7" rims, with an ET 15 (offset). These just fit, but in hindsight an ET of 20mm would have been better, as there is ample clearance to the struts on the inside, but to run 205 Tyres on the rear you will have to roll the inner lip of the wheel arch of a coupe, but mine is a Series 1 coupe, not sure if there is any difference with the VX, but I doubt it. I did away with std Lancia spacers and used new shorter bolts, so wheels sit straight up against discs. Tyres are 205/50 x 15 Toyo R888 semi slicks in medium compound, which are also available in 195/55x15 and 215/50 x15. I originally ran 185/60x14 Toyo R888 on the std Lancia alloys, but the difference with the larger rim/Tyres was worth 3secs at my Local hillclimb.... Regards Ian |
