Title: Timing marks on an i.e engine?
Post by: Spyder79 on July 07, 2010, 06:55:36 PM
Does anyone know where the timing marks are on a 2000 i.e engine?

My Spyder engine has an i.e engine in but i cannot see the marks for tdc etc anywhere.
Tried a timing light and nothing shows up.

any ideas?

Flywheel mark can be seen after removing the little plastic cover on the bellhousing.

Cam wheel pointers/marks are on the metal plate that the yellow belt cover is attached
to, these align with small holes in the pulleys.

hope that makes sense.

I think there are some marks on the bottom 'point' of the yellow cover as well.

For my Trevi there's a couple of small access panels in the offside wheel arch liner and the crankshaft marks can be seen though them. But I found it easier to remove the offside front wheel and complete front section of wheel arch liner to set the ignition timing. You need a strobe light with fairly long leads!
