Title: Gasket material
Post by: peteracs on February 23, 2024, 12:44:36 PM
Hi

I was watching the latest video from M539 Restorations and he gave options on sealing surfaces on the engine he was building. I thought it may give some useful ideas and alternative to using RTV for some applications. I bought a small can of Permatex to use which I will try on the sump of the Spider which needs re-sealing. I originally used RTV with a cork gasket which lasted ok for a couple of years, but given what I know now re loose RTV in the sump and I think it is weeping, needs to be dropped and re-sealed at some point.

Start at 7:30 if you are not interested in the engine build. I would recommend watching at least one of his videos as he is meticulous with them and has some good pointers for amateur engine building with limited tools.

Hi Peter,

Very useful confirming my recent purchase of Loctite 5923 to coat my gaskets on the dreaded Abarth R10 Supercharger outer casing. The small art paint brush was a tool I have not been smart enough to use before!
