Title: NEC Restoration Show 22nd to 24th March
Post by: peteracs on September 15, 2023, 09:34:33 PM
Hi All

I have applied to have a stand at the 2024 following a successful 2023 show. I expect to hear in December if we have one, so just using this as a place marker until I hear from the organisers.

Hi

Just to confirm that we have a stand for the show, details will follow.

I am therefore interested to hear from anyone who is prepared to help out on the stand for one or more days during the show, also if anyone is interested in having their car on the stand. I am not necessarily looking for pristine examples which we normally get at the November show, but any state of car would be of interest given the theme of the show!

Thanks

Peter

Peter

Happy to help again this year in whatever way. I'm in the process of scouting out possible restorers to sort my Coupe, but if it remains in it's current slightly rough state it may be a possible for your stand.

Hi Peter,

I'm think that, as per our previous chat, that my car may well
be a candidate for the show. In conjunction with that, I'd be available
to man the stand.

Chat later
Nigel

Hi

I can confirm that I have two cars for the show, Nigel’s HPE and the other is not a Beta, but is owned by a Beta owner who is also on the forum. The car is a Y10, thanks to Frank for offering/accepting my request!

I have space for 3 cars and waiting on Neil to see if his is available for that date.

My reason for asking for the Y10 is fairly simple. The LMC were unable to put forward anyone to organise a separate or help to share a stand with us (disappointing given the membership size), but I looked at the other club stands and I really wanted to have a later more everyday car to show. I know Betas are what we are about, but they are 40-50 years old and that may not excite a younger audience who may relate better to late 80/90s cars. We are also next to Fiat who last year had a range of small everyday cars on their stand, so the Y10 fits in with them as well.

I hope this will not offend anyone.

I have offers of help during the show, but if anyone wants to put their hand up, I still have a few tickets spare if you are prepared to put in a stint on the stand.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Justin

It would be appreciated, Saturday would be the better day from my point of view.

Thanks

Hi All

Just a quick thanks to the car owners who were prepared to spend the time and money to be on the stand this year, Nigel, Alex and Frank.

Also to those who helped to man and visit the stand over the three days.

As last year I felt it was worth doing to remind people they (still) exist.

Thanks Peter,

It was an absolute pleasure showing my car at the NEC - thanks to all on here that stopped for a chat and said nice things about my coupé -  the positive feedback I got really meant a lot and the atmosphere of the show was superb.

I also learnt a lot about my car too - it would appear that the colour that it has been resprayed from Capri Blue in is not "Metallized Blue" but a closer match to Fiat's Portofino Blue which was used on the Fiat Coupé and other models in and around the mid 90s. It seems to suit the Beta very nicely too.

It has also been discovered that I have a the early airbox fitted on my car - It bugs me as I like the Lancia script on top of the camshaft covers - so will be looking to rectify that and make it more visable. Also - the very eagle eyed will have noticed my car is sporting the later i.e or Volumex gearknob again I'd like to either source the correct part or take some measurements / profile from the correct part and have a one turned in hardwood on a lathe.

If anyone has a correct airbox  / gearknob in their garage or shed. or wants to do a swap please drop me a line

Alex

Hi Alex,
I haven’t had the pleasure to see your coupe in the flesh yet but it looks to be a very similar version to my first ever Beta coupe. Mine was a 1980 model and it had what I believe was the correct gear knob in rubber/composite.
You mention getting one turned in wood so I presume you’re aiming towards the teardrop style fitted on earlier models?
I think the correct type for your car is very similar to the late VX/i.e. which is a globe ball shaped affair but yours should be a more cylinder type round top rubber/composite.

I can’t seem to upload a picture as I keep getting ‘forbidden access’ and invalid path to my photos.

Hoping I’m not sending you down the wrong path, and I will keep trying to upload the photo.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks Ian,

I will be down at Brooklands, Goodwood, LMC AGM weekend and Betameeta this year so hopefully will see you there.

Regarding the gearknob, that is right, I currently have the more spherical i.e / VX item fitted to my car, but would like to change it back to the correct more cylindrical shaped gearknob. If I can't find a good used one and nobody out there is willing to do a swap -  I am hoping to get one turned to the correct cylindrical profile in hardwood which I reckon would look quite good with the long stem. I love the look and feel of the teardrop for earlier cars, but for me, that shape isn't quite right for my interior and I think I would go for a much more grained wood. - I plan to take some measurements and produce some scale drawings and find someone who's a dab hand with a lathe - I haven't touched said equipment since I was at school in the mid-90's -  but I am willing to have another go!  I'll keep my leather i.e / VX gaiter with the popper on it.

Alex
