Hi Alex, I haven’t had the pleasure to see your coupe in the flesh yet but it looks to be a very similar version to my first ever Beta coupe. Mine was a 1980 model and it had what I believe was the correct gear knob in rubber/composite. You mention getting one turned in wood so I presume you’re aiming towards the teardrop style fitted on earlier models? I think the correct type for your car is very similar to the late VX/i.e. which is a globe ball shaped affair but yours should be a more cylinder type round top rubber/composite. I can’t seem to upload a picture as I keep getting ‘forbidden access’ and invalid path to my photos. Hoping I’m not sending you down the wrong path, and I will keep trying to upload the photo. Cheers Ian Thanks Ian, I will be down at Brooklands, Goodwood, LMC AGM weekend and Betameeta this year so hopefully will see you there. Regarding the gearknob, that is right, I currently have the more spherical i.e / VX item fitted to my car, but would like to change it back to the correct more cylindrical shaped gearknob. If I can't find a good used one and nobody out there is willing to do a swap - I am hoping to get one turned to the correct cylindrical profile in hardwood which I reckon would look quite good with the long stem. I love the look and feel of the teardrop for earlier cars, but for me, that shape isn't quite right for my interior and I think I would go for a much more grained wood. - I plan to take some measurements and produce some scale drawings and find someone who's a dab hand with a lathe - I haven't touched said equipment since I was at school in the mid-90's - but I am willing to have another go! I'll keep my leather i.e / VX gaiter with the popper on it. Alex |

Hi Kevin, I'm not sure how long they take but assuming it may be a few weeks. As Ian said, maybe they don't start processing until April? Nigel On the upside, so long as they accept the amendment, they will refund any tax paid post 1st April. |

Thanks Peter,
It was an absolute pleasure showing my car at the NEC - thanks to all on here that stopped for a chat and said nice things about my coupé - the positive feedback I got really meant a lot and the atmosphere of the show was superb. I also learnt a lot about my car too - it would appear that the colour that it has been resprayed from Capri Blue in is not "Metallized Blue" but a closer match to Fiat's Portofino Blue which was used on the Fiat Coupé and other models in and around the mid 90s. It seems to suit the Beta very nicely too. It has also been discovered that I have a the early airbox fitted on my car - It bugs me as I like the Lancia script on top of the camshaft covers - so will be looking to rectify that and make it more visable. Also - the very eagle eyed will have noticed my car is sporting the later i.e or Volumex gearknob again I'd like to either source the correct part or take some measurements / profile from the correct part and have a one turned in hardwood on a lathe. If anyone has a correct airbox / gearknob in their garage or shed. or wants to do a swap please drop me a line Alex |

Thanks John and good luck with the fitting.

Hi Graham
Zero back lash ratchets are ideal manual tools. But what happens when you have depth but little room to swing a ratchet? BTW I have excellent Facom ring spanners and I am VERY careful to have ratchets and ratchet spanners with little backlash and the ability to be trusted not to slip losing the skin from my knuckles.
