I only adjusted the one under the battery tray. As he original link near the bulkhead was "solid" I assumed that had to be left. That's always also assuming that the replacement link was "set" to the original length. I may have been lucky setting that one.

I should have added that I , too, had difficulty with 5th and reverse and according to my "garage wall" notes I gave it two complete turns anti-clockwise.

Thanks Ammy = as that adjuster is the easiest to get at, I'm happy to take your advice and try the one under the battery tray...

Adjusting the linkage under the battery tray transformed the gear change on my ie. I could only get 1st and 2nd with extreme difficulty. Lengthening the rod (2 turns) got these selecting perfectly with 5th serviceable, but not as dead easy as it was. So it seems like you need to shorten the rod, but not much I would have thought.
I did this while the car was on the LMC stand at Manchester CCS. Never has such an easy job made so much difference!

Thanks Neil, will give that a try. on mine it's only 5th that I can't select. I can get reverse so probably take the adjustment in small steps.
Does adjusting the length of the Betaboyz linkage rod at the back of the engine have any bearing on this? I set it to as close to the length of the OE part as possible, but may have got it slightly out. Adjustability can be a mixed blessing...

Sorry, don't know the impact of the rear adjustment. However, if you have a Haynes manual, for once, the description of how to adjust the linkage is spot on.

I'm pleased to report that one clockwise turn (ish) on the linkage (shortening the effective length) seems to have restored my 4 speed and reverse gearbox to 5 speeds and reverse; at least statically selecting the gears. I haven't got time to take it for a road test, as I'm flying back from France tomorrow and I'm in shutdown/lockdown mode.
So thanks everybody - for once it was a simple job. Would that they were all like that...
