Hi all,

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the front shocks of the HPE/Coupe are different from the saloon. Is this correct? Monroe list them as MR833 for all models... Huh?
Are there any inserts available anywhere (apart from the spax) to fit the HPE?

Andrew.

The front springs are different for sure - I thought the shocks were the same for all on the front.

Hi, both struts (shocks) and springs are different.

Springs are taller .
Shocks are taller and thicker .

So Monroe must have it wrong then...? They list that part number as fitting all Betas except the 1800 for some strange reason.  Huh?

Thanks for clarifying Mark.

You wouldn't happen to have the measurements of either so we can check which is which ?

Hi Stuart,

Have a look on the history section of the forum - when it was run the Microsoft forum service, I had Berlina/Sedan front shocks on my Coupe and it sat "high" at the front.  I put a new set of Coupe shocks & springs on and that sorted the issue, from memory I had all the measurements included in that thread - unsprung spring height etc.

Cant remember off top of my head now (an age thing!)

Matt,

Ahem.... I know,  I was the one that suggested that you had the wrong springs on  Wink

But no dimensions for the shocks that I could find. Not a problem I've got a good known Spider / Coupe set so I'll just comare them to the ones currently on the car, I already know the springs are wrong so it will only take a moment while I'm taking them off.

This topic was covered more recently in great detail, including some photo's with measurements andpictures of 'The Colonel's' adapted Subaru struts for his Gamma. Should be findable in the suspension section?

See I'm older and more senile than I first thought!

I do recall that when I measured the Sedan and Coupe springs when assembled rready to go on the car they measured up pretty much identical, but when on the car it sat higher on Sedan springs.

If anyone can post here the size difference between the inserts for the saloon and the coupe/hpe I would appreciate it. Are the saloon inserts bigger? Longer? Thicker? Would the saloon insert fit in an hpe strut? The previous posts don't make it clear...

Also- I'm no suspension expert so bear with me...
The ride height of the car is determined by the springs. Correct?
So just because the saloon shock absorber insert may be longer it shouldn't affect the ride height of an hpe. Correct?
If so, the limitations of fitting a saloon insert (which are available) into an hpe strut body are: The diameter of the insert body and the length of the insert body- whether it would physically fit into the hpe strut housing.
So if I'm correct in my thinking I'm now back to my fist point here: Anyone know the measurements...?

I have just rebuilt my front coupe suspension with new inserts which came from Mark W.

I know he's quite busy so am sure he'll get back to you soon, although it's probably best to email him direct.

Have a look at the 1600 coupe restoration thread under Members Cars.  Or PM me.
