HPE 2.0 i.e. and Beta Coupe 2000

« on: June 18, 2010, 10:13:10 PM »

Anyone out there have any advice on just how to go about repairing cracks on the dash. I have an otherwise brilliant condition interior in my '76 coupé, bar three relatively small cracks. I have seen lots of repair kits and services but would like to hear from anyone who has experience with this...

Mine is exactly the same and I have thought about having a go with brown silicone filler (the type that comes in trigger tubes), but this is difficult to rub down once set. For the moment I have decided to leave it. At the end of the day the dash material has been hardened by the sun and was probably too hard in the first place - modern dash material tends to be either slightly rubbery (in quality cars) or very hard (and plasticy in cheap cars). The dashes probably creaked like mad until they cracked.

I looked into this on my first spider and was told it wasn't suitable for repair - the very thin skin over a foam type base was the problem.

That said the cracks in mine were pretty extensive so you may have more luck. I ended up getting mine covered by an upholsterer which looked pretty good.

Lancia Services Cape town have told me they have a New Old Stock dash but that it will need a good clean to bring it back to life. I'm not quite sure what that means but it might be worth a gamble.

Can you post up some pictures of your little collection  - especialy the Flavia 2000 coupes?

I will take some more pics of my work in progress flavia 2000 injection...

I have now decided to go the full hog with the beta coupé 1976 and do a proper restoration now - I love this one. The engine is coming out on Monday.
I have spoken to auto trimmers in Maritzburg who claim to be able to fix the cracked dash - I will post any progess.
