Hi all,

I've been playing around with my Beta Coupe for a while and have done a few motorkhanas but havent committed myself to any particular development path yet as I've been trying to decide what I want to do with it.

Well, I've finally made up my mind that I'm going to make it a Tarmac Rally/Classic Targa car and I've convinced my wife to have a run in Targa Tasmania as my fortieth birthday present (which will be in 2007).  In the lead up I'm going to take on a few smaller events starting with the East Coast Classic in 05.

So I've made a few decisions on engine configuration (stay 8 valve - cost , twin 48 webers, about 10.5:1 comp ratio, big valves, rally cam etc).  I think I've found an LSD.  I'll be looking at suspension set-ups shortly......

But now tyres...

I've decided (for better of worse) to stick with the standard rims (they are pretty light, strong and free - cos I've already got them).  As I dont have power steering and I'm on 14x5.5 rims  I'm looking at something sized 195/60 x 14.

So I've narrowed my choices to:

Yokohama A032R
Falken Azenis RT-215
Toyo Proxis RA-1

So what, if any, recommendations can the group make?  What has anyone used, how did they go for grip, wear etc.

PS.   I'll make sure I get some photos of the car on the site as it slowly comes together and keep you up to date with the build and events.

There has been quite a little discussion about tyres recently over at

Why not have a look?

I have used the Yokohamas and found them to be very grippy but wear was a
problem with a noticeable decline in performance (after about 8k). Currently
running Falken on a coupe and have found them to be very good all round,
dry, rain, slick. Have gotten about 15K out of them with no noticeable
degradation

Hi i know it sounds crazy but the Kumho PowermaxII 768 has been the best
tyre i've ever had better than toyo's and falkens if you can find them.
I also had 195/60-14 needed new ones after 25,000 k's cause they were bald
but wet or dry they stick like sh.. to a blanket.
