Spyder targa roof panel lining
« on: April 29, 2024, 08:41:36 AM »
Good morning.
Short and hopefully an easy answer question.
My 1981 face lift Spyder targa roof panel has carpet type material as the trim/sound deadening material glued to it on the inside.
I am guessing this was the standard trim but would appreciate certain confirmation please.
Thanks and regards. C

Hi Clifford

Yes the roofs had acoustic carpet lining. It was nothing special and available in many places new. I re did mine with a layer of Dyna Foam underneath to see if I could make the car quieter with the roof on.  Think paper templates and contact adhesive.

There might be pictures in my owners car thing on here.

Thanks Jon. Shouldn't be too hard to sort out.

Cheers Eric. Did the extra sound proofing help much?

I had thought about putting some padded vinyl in place of it,  a bit like the Ferrari Dino, which looked nice but I think I may keep it original as most of the car is, but will think about the extra sound proofing.

Hi Clifford

I do not know because the car is not yet on the road.

Hi

That looks similar to mine so suspect that is original or at least replaced very much the same as original

I think probably that's the case too Peter.
I am going to have a go with repainting the surrounding area and the clips this summer.. Can't get all of the screws out and having broken one off already, will paint in situ. Tried all of the usual methods to remove but don't want to damage the roof itself.

My original top was in good condition and all the bolts came out, on the spare one it was a different story, all depends how much moisture was in the cabin I think.

You may need to drill a small hole in the fiber glass close to the reluctant bolt to get a squirt of anti-seize to the back of the bolt a simple filling job when you are done. Beware leaving cutoff bits in the roof cavity. they will rattle and buzz later!
