Under the parcel shelf Spyder

Hi there.
I have the parcel shelf out of my facelift Spyder at the moment and came across this on the metal work underneath.  It was covered in what looked like paper tape but it was all flaking and so I took it off.
Is it some previous repair work or was it like this coming out of the Zagato factory... maybe some reinforcement after colbert to a Spyder?

Hi Clifford

Looks very much a repair to me, my earlier Spider did not have it and I suspect it may be due to water ingress collecting and rusting through. Although the Zagato welding is not great, that does look a bit lower quality. The good news is it looks like it should clean up and be ok.

What does it look like from inside the boot?

Yes it's solid enough Peter. No sign of any repair or rust under it in the boot  that seems perfect,  but maybe there is a double skin?

I assumed it was a metal strip, but is it actually a bitumous type of material to act as sound deadening?

Happy to compare against mine but taking back shelf off will take a bit of time
Is it visible from the boot?

Peter it's weird. I put a magnet on it and it seems to stick. I gently stick a screw driver into it and it does look like some soft material on the surface. This looks like it was painted but had cracked and I wonder whether the paper tape was too stop any stickiness from it.

It all seems solid and no problems so I will just tidy it up a bit

That looks like the sound deadening mats. There was similar on the shelf behind the rear seats on the Coupe. It was painted over on my car.

Guy
