Coupe rear spring pads - the parts I have appear to be usable but I note that the rear assemblies have a thick rubber upper seat with a metal collar that fits between them and the spring. One of mine is just not there and the other is crumbling more ever time I sneeze. Are these metal parts critical and does anyone have a source?
Cheers

Guy,
Mine did not have those steel collars, but I think they prevent the rubber bit from
squeezing and deforming.
So not essential but nice to have. I wonder if a skilled metal worker could
make some?

Peter, you're referring to the rubber rings I think, which Mark does make.

I asked Mark for a pair of steel seats tonight so we'll find out if he does stock/make them! The suspension rubbers are a mixture on my car. The lower ones are all beyond saving, the front uppers too. I guess the thin rubber perishes/split easily. The top ones, being thicker, are surprisingly good and I think the top mounts will see a few more years. I washed and cleaned the decent rear upper pads and the four bump stops. Actually, I had to resort to cleaning a spare one. One of the original ones was obviously a replacement but the number on the spares one matched the other three! I have a full set of matching bump stops, is my restoration getting silly? Maybe....

Hi

Mark has them now on his site, see

https://353652584127257704.weebly.com/store/p306/Rear_Spring_Platform_Metal_Ring.html

The story is that the originals rot out often to the point where you have no idea that they exist, that was the case on my Spider and HPE.

Matt on here years ago had a tool made to make them which passed over to Mark. I bought two from Mark years ago for the Spider and last year asked Mark for two more. He said then he was unhappy with the tool and was having a modified one made. This took a long time to sort and he finally came back to me and said he had a pair of prototype ones which I bought. He now has the tool sorted so he can reproduce them.

Most folk do not realise that they should be there.

Here endeth the lesson…..

Sorry for my perception of a misunderstanding Peter.

Now to look....

I've seen no evidence (rust stains) on the front upper rubbers. Should there be some there too? I note mark supplies them untreated, should they be painted or Cad plated?

Hi Guy

There are none on the front.

I guess plated is probably better, I simply painted mine.
