In my DVLA liaison role for Lancia Motor Club I've just received a query from a member as to obtaining historic tax classification for their Beta. It was registered in May 1983 so not eligible yet on that date. When I looked up the VIN the build date was July 1982, so it is eligible now on that date.

So, for any LMC members with Betas registered after January 1983 and with a VIN ending with less than 940788 please get in touch.

Hi Neil, thanks for the timely reminder. My HPE is coming off SORN for the coming season. It’s registered LPO828Y and first registered 24.01.1983. The VIN number is ZLA828BF000933497, thus qualifying for historic status. Are you able to help or is this something I can do direct with DVLA. Many thanks in advance and also for the work you do on behalf of the members. I had lunch with Jack Romano recently and he’s confirmed he’ll be at the AGM. All the best.

Derek, your car is eligible on build date but not registration (current cut off 08/01/1983). I've PM'd some instructions to you.

Hi Neil,
My HPE is 949717 and was built in Dec 83 as evidenced by a factory stamped plate.
It was first registered in Australia 31 Aug 84.

At what date will I be able to apply for historic?

Thanks,
Nigel

1st April 2024 on build date (requiring a LMC letter). What’s the ‘first registered’ date on you V5? If that is pre-January 84 you can just proceed with your V5 next year.
