Hi All

Had an email in from a guy and he thinks these came from an early Beta Spider, but I have never seen anything like it, can anyone recognise them?

Thanks

Peter

Is it some kind of storage sleeve for the roof?

Hi Ian

The seller has 3 and thought one was from his Spider from 75 and he said for the tonneau, but personally never seen one, hence the question. Wonder if it just came with Series 1?

Hi Eric

Do you mean the cover for the rear fold down or the hard top?

Out of curiosity and the guy simply asked for a decent donation to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal I decided to buy all 3 and will see what turns up……

Hi Peter the fold down roof cover. I have never seen a cover for the hard top so maybe that is what they are.

Hi Eric

Me neither and at first I did not believe it, but then the guy found a photo of a Spider with both the fold down cover and the cover for the hard top. He had a Spider from new for 10 years, a ‘75 which means S1, so suspect it may have been an S1 feature which did not make it to the S2 to save on costs. Alternatively it could have been like the ‘hard top’, which was made for the Spider, which was an option you could buy.

Peter
Have you got a copy of the Photo in question ?
If so could you post it?
I just don't get it ? Can't visualize it?
They just look like pieces of straight vynl and only female Poppers ?
Cheers

Thanks Peter
Still can't get my head around it as a Targa bag/cover
When I saw the "poppers" thought that the covers might have attached to the poppers at the parcel shelf at the rear and cover over the back to seats (from front to rear) making the spyder a temporary 2 seater similar to the rear seat cover you can get for a Stag

The idea of a cover for the targa top to for added protection when in the boot is a good one though.

I agree, just all the roof bags I have seen i.e. Fiat x19, Porsche 944 are just that "Bags"
Peters photos allude to just straight vynl fabric nothing to insert a roof panel into ?

Hi

Well they arrived today and I have to say I am none the wiser. As mentioned they are not bags and as such are not simply covers for the centre hard top. The way they are constructed there are 3 rows of elastic with square metal ‘hooks’ at each end and a popper which fits into the other part of the popper in the vinyl part. This provides a tensioned flat surface, but what to attach the metal hooks to? That is the question to be answered.

Offering the cover up into the boot the centre pair of hooks line up with the spring attachment on either side of rear wing, but there is no obvious additional attachment for the other 4 in my car at least. However the size of it does fit perfectly to the size of the boot, so I suspect somehow it was designed as a cover for inside the boot and hence maybe to separate the hard top from everything else when kept in the boot.

If anyone has seen any extra anchor points inside the Spider boot please let me know.
