Morning all, 1 frustrating,  intermittent problem that has been there since I got the car.

About 1:3 the starter doesn't turn the engine but suddenly it spins and fires. I highly suspect the starter however...

Starter refurbished
Alternator refurbished
New battery
New cables to starter, alternator, fuse box and earth leads
New coil (question mark over to-balast or not to-balast)
New ignition switch
Ignition feeds relay that goes to starter solenoid

I tend to leave car on trickle charge so happy battery is not low (also happens if for example I restart after putting petrol in)

So, unless something engine / transmission is sticking its symptomatic of a starter.

I don't have time to get it retested any time soon and happy to pick up another at Beaulieu nest weekend.

Any thoughts, ideas of what else to check?

Hi

I would suspect solenoid or feed/ground to the starter

Get rid of that OE Starter and use a WOSP reduction gear unit. The OE units are heavy and an ancient design with very few people able to properly re-build them.

the WOSP unit is a fit and forget solution so avoid another tired unit from Beaulieu
