Hi,

I would like to know if this situation of the rear windscreen wiper ist the normal and original situation or if there is a cover I have to find and add.

Thanks and best regards Thomas

I remember the early series cars (early bumper) had chrome wiper arms? Later cars were black I think.

Hi Guy

Yes, I think they mirrored the surrounds of the windows, ie stainless surround and stainless wipers / black surround and black wipers.

Hi Thomas

It looks normal to me, so long as the screw has a cover all normal. It does however appear to be set a little high, I would set it so it sits more horizontal when not being used.

Thanks for the quick answer. I checked two other cars and no one has an additional cover. I will try to move the screw a liitle bit.

Hi

Assuming the rear one fits like the front ones, then you simply loosen the nut under the cover and lift the arm slightly so it no longer mates with the splines and rotate it to the point you want it. Then tighten the nut.

Thank you very much for your replys and your good advices. I removed the nut and found out that somebody of the preowners used a thick O-ring under the nut. I replaced it through a thinner one and everything is fine now.

I also removed the cover of the rear door to check if everything inside is fine and clean. So I saw that there is a small knob which allows me to open the rear door from inside. I thought about and it makes no sense for me. Is this a door opener for emergency case or is there another reason?

Interesting car this Lancia Beta HPE. I thought, I know the car but there alway new things I see.

Best regards Thomas

Hi Thomas,
My 84 HPE doesn't have the inside lever to open, but I do recall the earlier cars having this.

I've just reassembled my wiper arm, but mine has a wash function as well. The wiper arm
has no bolt fitment, it just 'clicks' on. And the arm end is a large cup device which hides
the wash pipe under it.

I think i'll take another look to see if there is provision for an inside release lever. But in saying
that, the lock is quite different to the earlier cars.

Ha! That's tripped such an old memory of my 1978 S2FL HPE that had the mustard yellow interior. And airshows! We'd take 4 people plus kit in comfort and camp for the weekends. Everyone slept in tents except me, Rear seats folded fully flat, side window open and stretch out in luxury! (unless it rained, then it got noisy) and getting out was a doddle with that lever to open the hatch from inside!

Odd you should mention that. Out first ever trip to France was to one of the organised camping holidays down in the Pyrenees. We had no idea how long it would take from St Malo and yes it took way longer than we had estimated, so ended up sleeping in the back overnight on the way down in an HPE with those mustard seats. We were a bit more enlightened for the return trip and had places booked.
