Hello

So, i've stumbled upon this dashboard. Is it a rare/special one?
Does anyone know the story behind these dashboards?

- Gerke

I have to say I have always liked the colours, sort of fits with the early car seats etc.

Not unique but rare! It was fitted to the very earliest of the Series 1 cars before reverting to something a little less extreme! The clock also matched this finish.

One of the few criticisms on the very early cars was that the instruments were difficult to read, that's why Lancia changed them so quickly  Wink

Hi

Yes, I can see that, but I still like them and would be an interesting change to the Spider….

This set may not be UK legal - the speedo is in Km/PH only. However, an MOT examiner would have to spot that and if you've got and use historic exemption from MOT then nobody is going to complain. Caveat - your insurance company might query why you dispensed with an annual MOT and/or use it's absence as evidence of a lack of proper maintenance should the worst happen..

Hi Guy

I would not fit a KM Speedo, far too complicated to work it out on the move, though you could modify the display to highlight 30/50/60/70. I wonder if they ever did MPH versions?

My view on MOT is approx every 2 years for the Spider due to very limited mileage, current one just expired and aim to have one in the Spring.

This one ought to be fairly easy to sort. Given you can remove the brown plastic front to expose the perspex underneath (which can't rotate like on a round single gauge) you could get an overlay printed to stick over the front. The Stratos replica only has a Kph speedo (but doesn't say so!) and my MOT tester has never asked. Fortunately it's fairly easy to remember that 30mph = 50kph, 50 = 80kph and 60 = 100 kph. Ballpark numbers and probably not an issue with speedometer accuracy being a little questionable! I usually run with a digital GPS speedo, not because I can't work it out but because the speedo positioning on a Group 4 dash is not exactly in the line of sight and it's a small 60mm gauge too!

And of course there's no reason for the OP to need to put an MPH scale on this one! I don't recall ever seeing one in this country with these gauges, there can't have been many Series 1 brought in and probably none survive now?

Waits to be proven wrong! I hope I am!

I have a silver and yellow speedo in MPH, not for sale but it shows they are out there, however really kph is easy enough to use you soon get used to it

Guy,
The speedo is not tested during an MOT, but is required by Construction and Use regulations if
the vehicle is registered after April 84. Its system of measurement i.e. mph/kph is immaterial.
The current odo reading is recorded whether in mph or kph.

On insurance, as an MOT is not required after 40 years of age, a claim will be judged on evidence
of fitness for the road only. Proper maintenance on such a car does not include having a current MOT.

Guy

There are several Series 1 Coupes in the UK still in one piece. There was one on the Betaboyz NEC stand with my ie in 2019. Hopefully a few will turn up over this weekend.....
