Looking to get a less restricting exhaust manifold for my 2.0 IE has anyone got one fitted Huh? (Pics Wink) Where did they have it done Huh? and what price am i looking at Huh?
Sticking to the same subject, what is peoples views on exhaust wrap, and is it illegal to use Huh? as i've seen it advertised as for motorsport use only.

as far as I know it's legal, I've used it on both my Gamma exhausts and it certainly
got rid of the heat soak.

I have an Ansa made four branch effort on my VX which really is designed for a normally aspirated model.
Its for a 1600 really and it seems to get the job done.
CSC/Primaflow did a version at one time but i think this is discontinued as well.

I have to be honest - i really dont think you are going to get any noticeable gain from a four branch with the rest of the standard exhaust .... by that i mean an inferior after market TiMax or Euroflow pattern part.
They are not up to the original Lancia spec (now long gone).
The iron manifold is not bad really, its just the rest is the problem - you may need to have a custom made big bore (nothing over the top mind) with high flow sports silencers - off the shelf sizes are available for custom applications.

The exhaust wrap is a good idea though (and legal) as it keeps the heat down as thecolonel states.

Get a bigger bore system made up in stainless is the only solution i can think of.

I have an Ansa 4 branch manifold sitting in my loft if you're interested. It's used but not bad at all.

Be sure to check the clearance as my Ansa sits very, very close to the sub-frame - it only just clears and its burnt the paint off as well.
Also advise you to warp her up if you do fit it as the manifold has a lot more surface area, if not you will end up changing steering rack boots every year.
Lost count how many i have got through!

I used exhaust wrap on my first Hawk Stratos and will be using it again on my second car.  It was fitted to the first car from day one and no-one said anything at any of its MOT's, so I think you'll be OK.  Works a treat !

Continuing the exhaust manifold wrapping thread I would like to ask you how to wrap the standard cast iron manifold since there is not too much space between the sections. I have already bought a thermo-insulation tape, 50mm width. I doubt a bit if it is not too wide...
The only goal I would like to achieve is to reduce the temperature under bonnet and save the rack boots, fuseboard, insulation of wires etc.
Another question regards the temperature impact on the cast manifold - is it safe for it and will not crack?
thanks

Why not have the manifold ceramic coated. A good solid ceramic coating will do much the same thing as wrapping and be do-able so to speak on the standard cast manifold. It also looks good.

It would depend on budget of course.....

You can make your own ceramic slurry reasonably cheap. That will then allow you to do as many components as you want. We Get turbo dump pipes ceramic coated here and it's not to bad price wise.

The wrap become quite flexible when it is wet - just wrap as much as you can without blocking access to the mounting nuts. It would lso be worthwhile doing the first part of the downpipe as that radiates a lot of heat to the steering.

I agree with you, but the problem is the manifold sits on its place under bonnet Wink
There is not too much space between the engine and chassis so the operation is not going to be easy but it has to be done. Especially when is as hot as now and with underbonnet linnen the temperature in my engine bay is extremely high. I will try to make wet the wrap with water prior the winding and let you know about the results. I am going to use all the tape I have. I hope that 5meters will be enough.
thanks

Hi

Never used it myself, so this may be a nonsense suggestion, but depending on the width, can you cut it in two to make it easier to go around the tight bends etc?

It does, however I wore gloves I had also a T-shirt. In a result my hands are now ok but arms are a bit irritated. Anyway I succesfuly wrapped just the exhaust manifold. It was not easy but doable. I used 4 of 5 meters of the tape so I need to buy some more to wrap also the downpipe. Now I am wondering about trying to mount also the factory thermo shield, mainly for aesthetic purposes.
