Intriguing ..... States 1978 which would be S2 and it has the later doors but they say it's an 1800 and the chassis number is shown and it's definitely series 1

828AS1 is correct for an 1800 S1 Spider - only 225 of those made.  My 1978 registered spiders have both been in the 28xx chassis number range and I doubt Zagato knocked out 1000 of them that year. I'd suggest the shell at least was built in 1974/75. I suppose it might not have been sold until 1978 but that seems pretty unlikely

S1 Mirrors too, also a coupe centre dash panel. And those seats look awful. I think that's a car with what I'd generously call a rich history.

As you say curious, sadly you cannot see if the two support bars are there for the A to B posts under the targa which would give you a clear indication of S1 or 2. Apart from the chassis nos which is oddly highlighted and the 1800 label, which could easily be a transplant, it would indicate a S2 given the date.

Stuart, why do you think it has a Coupe dash?

Not so much the whole dash but the faux wood panel in the centre - it has 5 switches + the clock one of which looks like a rear window demister. The spider only had 4.

Of course I can't find my owners manual now to check!

spiders with the rather elusive hardtop have the demister
