Hi all,

I'd like to remove and replace the trims from the screen and tailgate.

How are they fixed on?

The front screen appears to my eye to be a bonded type, as opposed to the 'normal' rubber-mounted
on the late cars. The rear appears to be similar to the front.

The trims are bonded onto the glass. After the screens are bonded into the car. Or at least that’s how my cars have been, presumably factory.
It can be tricky removing the trim without damaging the paintwork. If the trim bonding is starting to degrade and come a bit loose you might be able to use the ‘dental floss trick’ used to remove badges from bodywork.

Hi Nigel, can you remember how you got on removing the trim?. I'm about to do the same on the HPE as i think i have a small leak through the bottom right hand corner of the tailgate window. The car was out in the rain last week and afterwards i noticed the roller cover for the boot was a bit damp along with the bottom right hand corner of the tailgate carpet. Is it a case of using some trim tools to remove it?. My plan is to remove the trim and see if i can find any obvious leak between window and tailgate. Cheers, Kevin

Hi Kevin

The rear trim is bonded in and then the glass below it. A painful job especially if you do not want to damage the paintwork.

I use combination of Stanley knife blade and whatever else I can get in to cut the bonding agent working from the glass side.

If I was you and the leak is not much and there is no obvious corrosion I the metal of the tailgate, then try sealing it without removing first, it will save much hassle.

Hi Kevin,
As far as I remember I used a very thin and flexible paint scraper with a sharpened end.
It was definitely easy
as there was no damage to either paint nor trim.

As Peter said, do it from the glass side.
I had tried sealing it in-situ but that didn't work.

Once it's off, remove all the old sealant from the trim. It comes out fairly easily.

I used CT1, and plenty of it, to refit. I propped the tailgate flat, then used towels and bricks to apply
pressure overnight. There's a pic on page 7 of my recommission thread in the members section.
