Having had some problems with fuel supply during a recent rally, I took my 2000 Berlina to my excellent local Alfa/Italian specialist for a carb refurb. After some hours work, for which I haven't been charged, they tell me there is wear within the carb. Specifically the wear is allowing the spindle to move, despite the new sealants/washers(?) from the re-furb pack fitted at either end. I therefore need a new carb, or at least a non worn body. At this point my lack of technical knowledge is no doubt evident - so advice please. Apparently my carb is a Weber 34 DATR either 2/200 or 2/250.
The only 34 DATRs I can find available are specifically for a Fiat X/19, but say they may fit some Lancias. The X/19 is 1600cc - does this matter? I wouldn't be averse to a manual choke version (DMTR) but equally can't find one of these stated to be suitable for the Lancia 2000 engine. If I have to I'll buy a new carb but given the cost, would like to be sure it's right first. All advice very gratefully received.

With rare carburetors specialist firms can fit bronze (?) bushes into the worn area of the body. There are several Weber specialists online including Southern Carburetors etc. who might also supply new or reconditioned units.

The X19 unit might fit but you would need to check that the throat was large enough and matched your 2 litre manifold.

Agree with the specialist refurb route.

The X1/9 carb isn’t suitable for a 2000 Beta. Whilst it is possible to make it fit/work, it would require significant work including expensive re-jetting work.
Then after that you would have strangled the performance of the 2000 Beta as the X1/9 carb has significantly smaller choke sizes. It would be a step backwards imo.

Many thanks to both. I didn't realise it would be possible to repair the spindle wear on the existing carb but it clearly makes sense in avoiding any compatability issues. Grateful for advice on possible specialists to do this. Southern carbs are not taking in new work at the moment - I've seen ads for Gower & Lee and for Coln Engineering - any thoughts welcomed.

As mentioned elsewhere I used CFS in Bradford for my rebuild. They usually have an ad in Practical Classics but little online presence. A very old school guy in his garage, but he did a good job on mine.
