Hi. Just wondering whether anyone has an opinion on the groove that has been worn into the pressure plate on my Spyder.
The clutch disc seems to be almost as new, and the bearing rotates freely (maybe a little too freely) - so I'm wondering why this scoring has happened. Is it normal - or is it knackered?
Thanks.

I'd suggest either the clutch has been badly adjusted or someone was resting their foot on the clutch pedal.

Either way that needs replacing - the wear is too much.

Looking at that I'd suspect that the driven plate is more worn than you think, it is difficult to tell by eye how worn it is you'd need to micrometer it. Not very expensive to change if it's already apart.

Thanks guys. I thought that may be the case.
Does anyone have a source for a full kit - rather than just the 2 piece?
Guy Croft seems to do the bearing, and BetaBoyz have the plate and disc - but you used to be able to get complete kits fairly easily. I've been looking for some time now, but can't really find anything.
Thanks again.
Justin.

Over adjusted cable is a common fault or missing/broken return spring from the pivot arm to the little bracket on the bell housing.

I don't think it had the return spring on it.
It's all apart now, (just about to go back together) but there's no spring visible in the pictures that I took before disassembly.

I haven't got my car here to take a photo, but there is a small hole cast into the clutch arm. That's for the missing spring that keeps the bearing just floating above the pressure plate fingers rather than the stiction/friction of the cable not quite releasing after each pedal push and hence the bearing is always having a little pressure applied.

You will probably have to buy the bearing and clutch plate & cover separately these days.

Hi Eric. Yes - I got the bearing from Guy Croft (£39), and the Valeo pressure plate from Mister Auto for £85, which now seems to have increased to more like £167 from a few weeks ago:
http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/clutch-mechanism/valeo-802052_g261_a021802052.html

My disc seems to have plenty of meat on it - so I can only assume that I changed it the last time I had the gearbox off (around 25 years ago, when money would have been tight), and re-used the bearing and pressure plate.
