Hi, any consensus on fitting an oem steering wheel onto a 1979 beta spyder? I.e. most popular conversion, pitfalls, size etc?

do you aftermarket steering wheel?  OEM will bolt straight on - and personally I rather like the design.

There are a number of bosses available for not much money which will allow fitting of other wheels

I quite fancy a wood rim type Momo or similar I wondered if it were possible and whether it was a straightforward job, what size boss if needed?

Not tried it myself but if you have a search on here you will find reference to steering wheel bosses.  Should be dead easy

People used to fit the VX thicker rimmed OE steering wheel to Beta Spyders. Be aware that smaller diameter wheels will make for heavier steering. This works well if you have power steering, but it can get heavy for parking otherwise

Cheers Eric, have you got any more info on the vx wheel please? I'm afraid I know not of any models so would be valuable. Im after a classic wheel the same size as fitted, not one for these little `Austin mini' types of old. Cheers

Mountney & Momo both do bosses and wheels that fit.

Thanks Neil, I have heard from both companies who inform me their products will work with the appropriate Boss, however no one could advise on the size required, so appear to be going around in circles? I performed a search on SW boss's on the forum but couldn't find anything about size?

These also look good and reasonable prices.

I've a Momo Prototipo on mine. An Integrale wheel also works well. With 185 tyres I've also got a spacer fitted to bring the wheel closer and allow my elbows to give it more wellie.
