I have ordered a new wheel bearing kit for my 79 Spyder from ebay

This one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370650752244?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

But I have just had an emal to say that, based on the vehicle reg I have given them, this is the wrong part.  And they want to send me the "correct part" which is one bearing and one oil seal and no locking ring.

I thought all betas shared the same front wheel bearings?  And the kit that this firm is proposing does not include the locking ring so is of no use to me.

can anyone recommend a supplier who can provide me with the right bearing and locking ring?  Or confirmation that the item i ordered in the first place is correct?

NB I have marked this as urgent as i have managed to book a rare day of work next wednesday to fit and cannot do at any other time for the rest of August so I want to get this sorted asap

Thanks

I would ask them for the exact dimensions I/D and O/D plus the width.

I have bearings that can compare for the correct size.

The lock ring can be re-used as long as you don't destroy it when removing.

The bearings I have FAG & QH neither include the lock ring as that's an OEM item, but I'm pretty sure there was a guy in Netherlands remaking them. Be careful front & rear lock rings are different sizes.

All beta except monte use the same bearing front and rear although complete kits are different front or rear due to the ring nuts supplied being different. The beta bearing is actually the same dimensions as those fitted to many renaults, it is definitely not a bearing with separate seal. Be careful buying off eBay you could end up with a Chinese bearing of poor quality new old stock are the best as they are almost always skf or fag.

Have a read of my rumblings on the subject

Thanks both - I have gone back to them (again - they keep telling me that there are a number of different wheel bearings for a beta) and we will see what happens

IIRC Monte Carlo bearing may have been a different size (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) but I thought Beta coupe, spider, HPE and Berlina were all the same.

I think but this is from memory so could be wrong that series two monte use same bearing on rear as fwd betas but with a different lock ring otherwise they are different(?). Many years of lancia ownership has taught me that after market parts listings must always be viewed with some suspicion.

As regards the locking ring if you are buying new parts I'd be slightly surprised if most 'kits' come with those parts I suspect that worldwide demand wouldn't be sufficient to make that an option so unless it is mashed to a pulp by previous bearing changes try to reuse the old one

There are usually locking rings on eBay from Chris Bastow
If you're not sure about the bearing. go to. simply bearings

The fir came back to me and told me that the advertised part will not fit my car and the 'alternative' that they offered is the correct size but comes with an oil seal?

Doesn't sound confidence inspiring I'd say a refund is best option

Indeed - refund just acquired and will go to local bearing place.  Fingers crossed I can get the locking ring off so I can re-use it

My day off yesterday didn't happen but I have a bearing on order for when I can next get some quality time alone with the Lancia
