Having a bit of a moment with my car away for restoration -
Chap has reported that the "Tensioner Pulley system, which takes the cambelt" is rusted and needs replacement.

Despite a phone call I'm still none the wiser to the exact part in question and thought I'd seek wiser heads here.

I supplied a tensioner bearing, so I'm reasonably confident it's not that.
Other bits of the tensioner system I've found online are the backing plate -

however that's just a bit of dumb metal that I can't see could manage to get rusted to oblivion.

I'm assuming there is a component of the tensioner system that actually does the tensioning, with a spring to keep it tensioned that is busted / seized - can someone point me in the right direction? it's the 1.6 engine

Apologies for daft q

Hi Chris

If you supplied a bearing the pully it goes in could have a rusted and pitted surface that would wear the belt quickly. Of course it can be lightly skimmed in a lathe to get a clean surface. Even emery paper going progressively finer will do. Obviously a new shiny pulley is ideal.

NB Fiat Monte and Beta tensioners are different and 1.6 pulleys are different diameters to 2000 pulleys.

Hi Chris

As Eric says the pulley fits over the bearing and is retained by a circlip originally. If it has an after market pulley/bearing these can be a sealed so you cannot just replace the bearing and have to be replaced as a whole which are more difficult to find. Also as Eric says the pulley is slightly larger (bearing the same) for the 2L than the 1.6, the 2l is approx 71mm, the 1.6 68mm from memory.

Thanks both, so from reading old topics it seems like the beta specific bit is the bracket I pictured earlier, not the pulley itself?

Well, normally my part finding skills are pretty good once I know what I'm looking for but this one is proving tricky.

Found 2 for sale but they have this slot in them that's making me doubt if they are correct - would someone who knows their onions tell me if these look right?

Thanks as ever

Hi Chris

The slot is not an issue if on the outside face. Are you after for 2l or 1.6 as the sizes differ and from previous threads on this the 2l complete may be harder to find. FYI the bearing on its own which a few of us have used is this SKF part.

Hi Chris

The AE Car part is not correct for the 1.6 Beta as it uses a backing mount that stands out further. We have this kind on Montecarlos. The Beta type overhangs to the front to line up on the belt so a front facing photo is what you need.

Peter

It's the 1.6 - the dimensions on the pulleys I've found say 67x34 for the 1.6 rather than the 70 for the 2 litre.

I'm in search of the complete pulley rather than just the bearing - reportedly it's gone rusty.

I'll ask the retailers if the slot is on the inside or outside face. I guess the slot must serve a purpose in some other applications but be redundant on the beta - or just be the wrong part!

I think the slot is in the carrier rather than  the bearing.

I have a Quinton Hazell QTT163 carrier with bearing if that is what is needed??

Hi Mark

A quick Google suggests that is the correct part for the 1.6.
