Hi all.
The left bracket on the IE coupe had detached from the stainless part of the bumper allowing this side of the bumper to move around, and upon taking the bumper off, it became clear why. It is completely shagged. the other side is more solid, and will probably just get a clean and a coat of hammerite.

The two problems are whether or not it's up to the job of supporting the side of the bumper in its current weekend state and how best to reattach. Alternatively a new one could be made up.  I think they attach to the bumper via 4 lugs (and adhesive? - I can't tell), though as they rust, they just fall off. It isn't a major structural part, just holds the bumper in the correct place with the ones on the back taking the main load, so I don't think it needs to be too sturdy.

Maybe something worth checking on your car before it's too late!

I had the same problem on my Coupe recently...They are attached with four spot welds to the bumper.  I had to make up a new bracket and mig weld it back in.  Make sure you line up the new bracket before welding.

Cheers,

John.
