Is he after proper Monte wheels or will 14" Beta alloys do the job?

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you send the wall across the field once youve hit it.

I presume Monte wheels, but I'll check.

If he wants Beta wheels, I have a set he (or anyone else for that matter) can have for 20 - as long as he picks them up

That may be a problem as Geoff said that the guy is not UK based.

Geoff

If he uses Beta wheels he must add spacers as the offset is different. NB Beta Wheels have round mouldings on the bolt holes and S2 Montecarlo have oval holes. Failure to use spaces can results in cutting through the rear brakes hoses by tyre rub if 195 tyres are used (guess how I know).

Lots of 14 inch Lancia and Fiat wheels 4 x 98 PCD will fit with the use of hub centric spacers which are available on ebay.

Hi Geoff,

Still required...? I have a set of S2 14" alloys for a Montecarlo. They are currently being renovated and will be available within the next 8-10 weeks (a vague timescale I know but that's the best I can say at the moment). End result will be a near perfect set of wheels as they were very good before the renovation. I had planned to list them on ebay but your friend is welcome to pitch in with an offer if he wants to. I am quite happy to post them anywhere- I sent four Revolution alloys to America last year; cost around 75 postage if I remember correctly.

Well, I had hoped my S2 Montecarlo wheels would be ready by the middle of January but the place I took them to be resprayed (along with around 5 other sets of alloys of various types) went bust before they got round to doing them! Shocked Angry By a stroke of luck I was tipped off on the situation and I managed to sneak in there and rescue my wheels before they disappeared...
Anyway, they're done now!

They're not perfect up close by any means but they are very, very nice indeed. I would imagine once fitted on the car from a typical viewing distance they would appear perfect. I plan to list these on ebay sometime over the next few days- I'll post here with the link when they're up there.

The conversation went something like this...
"Ooh yes, they do look good, don't they?! Wow, very nice. Oh... er... they're 14 inch..."
"Yes, 14X5.5. Genuine original Montecarlo S2 alloys"
Frown. "I thought they were 15s."
"Why would you think that?"
"I was sure Montecarlos had 15s! Oh God... sorry mate, I've got a set of 15 inch tyres waiting for some 15 inch wheels, these are no good to me..."
" Shocked Shocked Shocked Huh? Huh? Huh? Angry Angry Angry Cry Cry Cry Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes"

Now, sometimes a relatively local buyer collecting items and paying cash is a good thing... and sometimes it ain't! They'll be relisted friday 29th. Or make me an offer before then.

Yes, I noticed your auction and was going to congratulate you on what seemed like a good price. However...

You could always approach the highest losing bidder and ask if he wanted them for the price of his highest bid...?

I try to steer away as much from Evilbay sorry I mean Ebay as possible,Too many "shananagins" and dodgy deals on there.
With mates pushing bids up,non existent items and bidders hidden so you cannot tell whose bid and how often.
Even won items before at good price only to to told by the seller the winning bid was too low so they wont sell.
Been caught out a few times now so as mentioned I give it a wide berth.
I much prefer to deal via an enthusiast/club platform that way you at least stand some degree of completion as buyers and sellers both know what they are dealing in,there value and what to expect.

Really? I thought the final price was really poor. I've seen refurbished S2 alloys go for over 600.

You could always approach the highest losing bidder and ask if he wanted them for the price of his highest bid...?
I've done that but when he didn't win he sent his own wheels off for refurb instead, so now he couldn't justify spending the extra which is totally understandable.

Yes, I know this goes on. As far as I am aware I haven't been a victim of it when bidding but then again would I ever know...? The simple fact of what you say though is this activity goes on in all auctions, be they 'real' or cyberspace. My approach to bidding in an auction is to set my limit beforehand and not go over it. That way you'll never be 'conned' into parting with more money than you intended to. Of course, you may have ended up paying more than you actually wanted to but that's not the same thing... If you can't cope with that then you should never bid in an auction.
But... point noted about 'hidden' bidders. My auction was a 'private' one. I'm not sure when I selected that option- I certainly didn't choose it for this particular auction so I can only assume I did it ages ago and I haven't reset it. I didn't notice it at the time of making the listing. When I relist, if I choose to use an auction style listing then I will ensure it is not a private listing.

Even won items before at good price only to to told by the seller the winning bid was too low so they wont sell.
Well, that's pretty despicable behaviour and no doubt the seller's feedback would soon be indicative of it.

Well, the first part of that above quote I do agree with, but it is very much 'in an ideal world' thinking. Because the second part of the above quote is totally at odds with it. That offer implies the exact opposite of what you have just said. It's not an offer, it's an insult. You would expect to pay that for 5 wheels just removed from a car, not refinished. And, I might add, this is exactly why I actually prefer to use ebay- it avoids this situation of the seller having to put a price on something that fellow club buddies will feel is a bargain and a favour... How does one ever put a price on something anyway? How does one decide what something is worth? Generally by using 'the going rate' as an example. And where does one find 'the going rate' for a set of five refinished S2 alloys...? There is no 'going rate'- it doesn't exist. They are worth what anyone wants to pay at any given moment in time. And there is only one place to find out what that is...
The simple fact of the matter is this. I am not a wealthy man. I am self employed, feeling the financial pinch the same as anyone. I have my little hobby which is the same as most of us on here, messing around with old cars, and it simply has to be as self-financing as possible. If I want to buy stuff, first I have to sell stuff. I took the chance of listing the wheels on ebay with no reserve and I got what I think to be a poor result. Even poorer when the guy turned up with the cash and left with the cash because he'd misunderstood the listing. However, that's the chance you take with ebay. I will list them again because I want to sell them. I don't need them and they will help pay for my HPE's new interior. I would rather take the chance of listing them again than giving them away at a price that is a fabulous bargain to the buyer and a kick in the guts to the seller. Buyer walking away knowing he has just paid too little for something and seller feeling disappointed that he felt desperate enough to agree to it but it's ok... the seller has just gifted something to a fellow enthusiast so he can feel easier about that... If that's your definition of the enthusiast/club platform then I'm sorry but I don't agree.

Rant over.  Wink

Andrew calm down,
I fear you are exhibiting all the symptoms of Paranoia I am not out to get you or having a go and I doubt Mangocrazy is either.
My comment is a reference to my expierences on Ebay and why I try not to use it and not a reference to yours as a seller.
Your right in your statement "They are worth what anyone wants to pay at any given moment in time".
They are worth only 225 to me whether you feel it is an insult that is your perogative as they are obviously worth more to you.
No one least of all me is able or is going to force you to take an offer you don't want to as you are free to do so as you choose.
I like Mangocrazy thought you had received a better than expected sale on ebay.

My reasoning for this is simple.
1. Anyone that wants these wheels will surely put them on a S2 Montecarlo
2. There are only circa 100 Montecarlos in the country with the majority of those being S1 running 13" wheels specific to the S1
3. A lot of Montecarlo owners decide to ditch the original alloys in favour of bigger wheels and tread

So my point being there is unlikely to be Mega demand for the wheels as they border on the specialist and you are selling to niche market of owners.
Whether you agree or not is neither here or there, as they are my thoughts not the "Gospel"
Once again can I reiterate these are my opinions and they are not intended to be derogatory and in no way are they being made in anything other than good faith.
My last comment made on the subject is that I genuinely hope that you get your 600 for them and wish you all the best for your forthcoming Ebay listing or failing that have you tried contacting the Montecarlo Consortium as there may be a member on there looking for a new set of alloys?
Good luck with your endeavours whatever you decide.

I fear you are exhibiting all the symptoms of Paranoia

I think you are reading something into my post that isn't there. Nothing to calm, no suggestion of paranoia. I never for one moment thought you were 'out to get' me. And I have zero problem with Mangocrazy's post- there was absolutely nothing in his post to have a problem with. Quite the opposite; he made a helpful suggestion.
I totally appreciate your comments in general were a reference to your own personal experiences on ebay; and I totally agree with the key points in your above post. Also, I never suggested that anyone was 'going to force' me into taking an offer I don't want to take. I was pointing out that your offer was cheap. Which it was. I appreciate that 'they are worth only 225' to you but you must know that a price like that would be potentially taking advantage of someone. Keen to sell I am; desperate I am not.
If somewhere respected like Montezone occasionally sell s/h S2 alloys at 40 each then that makes 200 for 5. Using that as the 'going rate' for a used alloy suggests you think that a refinish on 5 wheels is worth circa 25... Even a quick google search would tell you that you wouldn't get even one wheel refinished for that.

Having said all this I thank you for your wishes of good luck.

Andrew.
