First time our household ever watched a live internet stream of an event like this.  Installed the red Bull Stratos app on the iPad then plugged the iPad into the TV and watched it on that.....  We started watching when he was at 70,000 feet and the suspense was fantastic!

Best part was when the door of the capsule opened to reveal planet earth outside, that was breathtaking!  Then he stood up, said a few words and then stepped off the little platform and dropped away.

It was kinda cool watching history in the making (and in HD too, not grainy poor quality film like the moon landings)  Grin

That guy has some serious "bottle"

Missed it. Will most probably pick it up on Live Leak.

Did you notice that that was a "one way mission" from the height he was then at. He only had less that 10 minutes air supply left, so he could not "bottle out". It would have taken way too long to drift down to Earth once more.
I can see a "Top Gear" race coming up in the near future!

The sky is no longer the limit.

When he was inside the capsule his suit was plugged into the oxygen tanks on the capsule, as part of the exit procedure he unplugged from the capsule supply and switched to the small oxygen tanks on his back which was designed to last for 10 mins, so he had twice as much oxygen on his back than he actually needed for the first part where the air was too thin.

They had a problem with the heated visor which they were trying to resolve while he was ascending, which added to the suspense. They were thinking of postponing the jump, but they managed to get it working and then announced that it would definately go ahead.

I was amazed at the fact that he landed on his feet and then pretty much walked off to the waiting truck.

Not sure that the BBC / Top Gear team will be keen on going into space.... they have a bad track record with jet engines/rocket power.  Well at least Richard Hammond does...

On radio 4 this morning Jon Humphries (I think) says to his personal trainer ' He's very brave but all he did was step off a platform.....'

I invite them to say that to his face!

I'd be inclined to say to Jon Humphries "if its just a case of stepping off a platform, then why don't you have a go at doing it next time?"
