I am in the process of having the splash guards remade for my Coupe and want to gauge interest in having more sets made up. (Seeing as I'll be stumping up for the tooling costs anyway).  In true Lancia style these are "handed" so I am looking at whether it is possible to make these a universal design and then when you come to fit them you modify to fit depending on which side you fit to.  If this is not possible then it's going to work out slightly more expensive.  But we'll see what my fabricator says and whether he can work something out.

At first sight these look easy to remake but once again, when you start looking at fabricating these it gets complicated very quickly.  So the remanufactured design may differ slightly from the OEM part.

For those that are not sure what this part does, in short it is supposed to stop water spray from the front wheels splashing up and hitting the bulkhead, plus it provides support/strength to the front wing.  These invariably rust at the bottom and then allow water to get at the bottom corners of the bulkhead/sill area, a location that all of us know is a weak area when it comes to the dreaded tin worm!

These should fit the Coupe and HPE cars. The Spider looks like it does not have these fitted but if someone with a Spider can confirm that would help a great deal.

Item No:10 in the attached picture.

Hi Matt

Mine is a S2 pre F/L Spyder and here are a couple of shots of what the guys did when they refurbished the wings, which I think shows the items you mention. They made up two replacements for me.

Hi Peter

They look the same and they look like what my fabricator and I discussed.  Still look to be sided but that's no issue at the end of the day.

Did your guys just make them up using the car or did they make up a tool/mould/knocking block?

Do you have any more pictures of these?  If you do would you be kind enough to email them to me?

Would probably have a pair for the future rebuild. Will they be rust proofed?

These will be made of better quality steel over the OEM version.  I will have them zinc plated then depending on the total cost per pair I may powder coat them after for extra protection.

My only concern about powder coating them is that is you need to make minor adjustments then it runs the risk of damaging the powder coat and then once moisture gets in under the coat it blows and lifts away from the surface.

Update on the splash guards:

The first pair of splash guards have been re-made out of 20 guage Zintex, these are being fettled and test fitted to my Coupé to ensure the tooling block and end result are as accurate as possible.

I'll get to see them in the flesh tomorrow and once I'm happy with everything I'll have a second set made, this will determine how long it will take to make up a pair and that will determine the price.

The plan is to leave a bit of surplus metal on the outer wing edge so that bodyshops can have a bit of spare metal to adjust to individual cars if need be.  The plan is not to powder coat but they will be zinc plated.  I guess once fitted they will be painted same or protected with underbody sealant  or something similar.

I'm very pleased with the results, I have decided to have a batch of 5 pairs made and other than being zinc plated what you see is what you get.

You can see why I had these remade, the original ones show the typical problem with these splash guards.

Neil, I wish I could give you an answer on price but at the moment I can't.

The single pair I have had made took longer due to time spent making the tooling jig so its hard to derive the cost from that effort.  I am having the batch of 5 pairs made, so that will only involve cost of material and the time to make them, so it will easier to calculate the cost based on that work.  Again, I'm not after making profit  out of this Graham my engineer has to make his profit but thats all.

I will say this though, I'm pretty certain that you won't have to re-mortgage to buy these.  The five pairs are being made over then next week or so and soon as they are ready I'll advise on cost of a pair.

I've decided to only sell them in pairs because otherwise I'll get stuck with lots for one side and none for the other.  If they are sold in pairs then it makes everything easier (for me) and Graham when he's making them.

Matt. I recently broke an S2 facelift spyder and it had them. My S1 doesn't and the S2 ones were very rotten so I assume they were original.
Hopr this helps

If they are fitted then I'd say they are going to be rusted somewhere just by the nature of their job and the quality of the metal used in the original manufacture.

I'm not all that familiar with spiders but I am about to start reading the S1 book so I'm about to learn what parts were common across coupes and spiders.
