Title: Front Brake Callipers
Post by: Spyder79 on May 09, 2010, 07:52:56 AM
Went through my parts box yesterday that came with the car and found these.

Does anyone know the best way to recondition them or check if they are faulty?
Is there a company that does it?

I tried to clean them up yesterday but the one without the braeded pipes on has both bleed nipples seized in it.

any advice please.

Thanks
Mike

It is possible to do it yourself, if you've got the relevant heat, air line to remove the piston, and hammer to split the caliper (I did the rear calipers on my turbo), then a sand blaster and relevant caliper repair kit.
Or you could contact these people and save yourself a lot of problems, http://www.biggred.co.uk/index.html (http://www.biggred.co.uk/index.html) no idea what they charge to refurbish your own.

Just checked my email, december 2008 they quoted £15 to removed snapped off bleed nipples and fit new, per caliper.

I've just had front and rear calipers refurbed by Biggred.

£300 inc coating of the hub mounts too. They're OK and look great from a couple of feet away but the service was a bit casual and I wouldn't say the finish is 100%. I might be temped to look elsewhere.

For what it's worth, I was very happy with the service from BiggRed.  My bill was £284 including paint coating.  In the end I asked my local garage to fit them a couple of weeks ago; they were very happy with the overall quality/finish and thought the refurb cost to be reasonable.
