Ok Folks my Browser is declaring Beta Boyz Forum as Not Secure.

Thought I should mention this.

Eric, Hi,
It says the same in my address window,[including a triangle with an exclamation mark]
however I thought it always said this.
I think Peter is the boffin, perhaps he can explain.

My TalkTalk 'homesafe' function was flagging similar a week ago, but that issue
seems to have been resolved.

Rgds, Nigel

The site has always been non-secure; i.e. it uses HTTP protocol, not HTTPS (The s stands for secure). To make it secure a security certificate for the site would need to be acquired and implemented. I use Firefox browser and that shows a lock with a red line through it, indicating a non-secure site.

It probably isn't the end of the world (it's been running like this for years and years), but would obviously be better if it could be secured.

For a forum with no sensitive data, It's not a huge problem. Communications between you and the server and vice versa are unencrypted: that is to say that were they to be intercepted, they would be shown as plain text as entered in forms (like replies or passwords), and addresses requested (hyperlinks clicked).

In a forum that shares knowledge and discussion with no real commercial value, its probably ok, but do bear in mind that anyone with access to any of the steps between you and the forum server can read it.

Obviously, don't use the password anywhere else, don't share sensitive personal or security information  (even in private messages), and you'll be fine.]
