Title: Engine Rebuild
Post by: Moorelli on March 18, 2022, 08:37:16 AM
Good morning all,

I am just about to lift my 1.6cc engine out of my car for a full rebuild. Looking for any advice on engine stands you have used for the task please and if anyone has one that is not in use and would like to rent it out for a few months, then please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you, thanks in advance for any advice.

Kind regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen

Graham on here had a mount made to allow a ‘standard’ engine mount to be used which he is still using on his engine rebuild. Hopefully he will be along to comment. Where are you based?

I bought my stand via Ebay as a second hand one at not too expensive money and given that you will probably underestimate how long you will use it, I would buy rather than rent which is what I have also done with my engine lift, though they tend to be more expensive than a stand.

Peter

Hi Stephen,

First of all, welcome to the forum! As Peter says, any reputable engine stand will work (or can be made to work) with our engines. In the grand scheme of things Beta engines are not that heavy, so there's no need to go absolute top of the line. I got my engine stand from SGS Engineering in Derby, who make a wealth of good quality but reasonably affordable workshop gear. When I first mounted my Beta 2L engine on the stand I used the bell housing mounting points, but that severely limited access to one end of the engine and wasn't ideal.

So I asked the question on here as to how and where people bolted their engines to stands and that thread should provide most of the answers to your question. As a result I decided to build (or have built) an intermediate plate that bolted securely to both the engine stand and the block, using stand-offs on both sides of the plate to accommodate the necesssary bolt heads  This thread gives details of my adaptor plate as well as general engine stand info:

Any questions, just ask away...

Graham
