Title: Rubber belt spray - anyone used it?
Post by: mangocrazy on December 27, 2021, 02:55:42 PM
I've been recommended to buy some belt spray to increase the efficiency of the drive belt on my drill press and reduce slipping of the belt. The blurb also maintains that it can be used on automotive belts, like fan belts etc. Would anyone dare to use this on our toothed cam belts? (Sits back and awaits incoming...)

Hi Graham,

Never would I use it on a cam belt. This stuff is designed to increase friction, so every time a tooth
is entering a cam wheel notch there could be resistance, ultimately causing severe sorrow, pain and grieving.

As for your V belts, if you really have to....but rather adjust or replace the belt.

Cheers
Nigel

What Nigel said. This is a get you home bodge for fan belts that have stretched beyond adjustment (normally because a too long item was fitted).

NB avoid painting the V Groove on pulleys.

Thanks chaps. I didn't honestly think that miracle spray would trump correct fitting and maintenance, but as it was the first time I'd heard of it I thought I'd ask.
