Title: Configuration of the boot retaining pin
Post by: peteracs on June 15, 2020, 05:26:58 PM
Hi All

Hopefully a simple answer to this.... I hope.

In my Spider boot there are the original rubber mats which came with the early cars rather than the material ones of the facelift cars. There is a rubber mat which goes along where the pin for the boot latch is screwed in. This mat also has two outer fixing holes which on later cars have a plastic headed screws I think, on this one I am going to use a plastic fastener. However I cannot remember and the parts book is not so helpful in understanding the exact combination of nuts/washers/covers for the pin which the boot latch goes on. The hole in the rubber is just wide enough for the threaded part of the pin, but how it all screws down is unclear.

So.... can anyone shed light on how it is arranged and given I have a pin and nut so far, what else am I missing?

Peter

Here is a photo of the pin and the rubber mat section with the hole for the pin.

The later models have a rubber washer between the pin and the trim, but I suspect that isn't what you mean?

These were the best I could find but they show the pin, the rubber cover and the knock in plastic pins that hold the rubber mat.

Hi Stuart

Is that felt sound proofing on the boot floor original? If so no wonder they rusted there!

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the pics. That does help, just need to now understand where the nut from the pin fits. Does it sit above the rubber mat and hence there are washers between it and the rubber with the rubber sandwiched between it and the body, or does the rubber sit above the nut and just retained by the rubber grommet which is around the pin?
