Title: 1981 Coupe rear suspension
Post by: Paulk on October 01, 2018, 08:39:07 PM
Has anyone replaced their rear transverse link bushes, any advice, ? not sure if it's something that can be done without specialist tools.
Haynes advises taking them to your nearest Lancia dealership.!
I was in the process of changing the rear struts but the bolts were stuck fast to the bushes and need replacing.
They are the adjustable transverse links, not sure if that matters.?
Cheers Paul

Take care with the anti-roll bar. It has to be restrained.  There is a special tool but I use a loop of rope tensioned by a length of wood which you "wind" up to stop the bar spreading.

It's pretty straightforward with both OE type bushes or with Betaboyz replacements.

Changing the suspension has turned out to be a big job.
Had to cut, drill, heat, both long hub bolts out.!
I've ended up taking the whole bridge out now to get at the transverse links.
Now 'just' need to replace the bushes.!
Any advice out there,?

From a quick look at the photos you have a badly bent adjustable link which will make the suspension crab. So post a parts wanted Ad for another rear subframe assembly for parts
A blow torch will remove the old rubber bushes so you can fit the Beta Boyz parts

Get the bolts, washers and bush holders on the adjustable links re-plated. I use Chingford plating. I had the frame and pressed arms sandblasted and powder coated and actually will use 4 adjustable links on my car.

Check very carefully for bent links or dangerously corroded links and use the best you can. It is easy when you have good parts prepped.

Good Luck

Eric

Hi,

I had the very same issue as you ... couldn't find a way of replacing them :(

I decided the best I could do was strip it down fully remove all the rust .. replace the bent arm and respray and re grease.

Came out pretty nicely.. Best advice I have for you.

As a matter of interest, how are you suspending the back end of the car while this work is going on? I'll need to do the same at some point and am unsure how (or where) to support the back end.
