Title: Master cylinder banjo bolt thread pitch.
Post by: mangocrazy on July 20, 2018, 08:55:28 PM
Can anyone tell me what the thread pitch is on the master cylinder outlets, please? I'll be doing a full refurb at some point and I'd like to replace the banjo bolts with stainless items. I know the calipers are M10 x 1.25 pitch and I'm guessing the m/cyl outlets are the same, but would like confirmation.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, its M10 x 1.25. That is for both the regular banjo bolt fitting on the MC, and the special odd banjo bolt that is a combination banjo and female union. Same thread on both ends of it. That bolt is flat on the end into the MC with female bubble flare from pipe on the other end. Another note is I received a MC from another vender which did not enable that connection to seat properly. I had to grind away excess material around to allow a leak-free connection.

I know this is likely too late but in case others want to know.

How hard do you torque these banjo bolts?

Hand tight with a spanner only. That's more than enough to seal them.

The above assumes new copper washers, of course. I've re-used copper washers in the past, and normally regretted it later. You could always anneal and re-use them but for what they cost I really don't think it's worth it. Even then I doubt if an annealed washer is as good as a new one.
