Title: Alternator bracket
Post by: jreacock on November 23, 2016, 12:06:47 PM
Hi all. Hoping someone can help me with this one. I've been renovating my 81 Spyder for a while now, and even though I thought I'd taken plenty of pics when disassembling, I don't have one showing the alternator bracket bush positioning. I bagged and labelled all the bits, so I'm fairly sure that everything I took off has been put back.

The problem I have, is the gap between the alternator bracket and the fixing bracket. It looks like something is missing, but I can't find out what it is. There's another post about the bushes and fixings for the alternator, and I seem to have all of the parts shown in the photo in the post. The left side has two half length bushes that push in from either side, and the right side bush is full length and pushes in from one side.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Justin.

Hi Justin

The only difference between yours and mine is the distance of the two fixing posts on the alternator, mine fits snugly with all the parts you have, so suspect the alternator is not an original spec, but after market one which has different mounting gap. You will need to improvise a spacer I would guess?

Hi Peter. I pretty sure that the one I have is original. It also matches the one that came with a donor HPE that I broke down years ago - which also has the same selection of fixings. I wondered whether the same part was missing from both to be honest - but it seemed a bit unlikely.

A pic of the one end of the alternator before I cleaned it up - not sure if you can identify it from that.

And a pic of it attached. Not a great pic - but the engine is still on the stand, so I can take a better one.

I realize the thread is old, but it could help someone going forward to see the original poster's picture.
I believe the one piece bush presses in from in between the legs. Justin just needed to flip it around.
