Title: Coupe carb fuel tank
Post by: smithymc on January 15, 2016, 09:58:11 PM
Has anyone out there got a tank they would part with?

I know mine is sealed and back on but the broken sender stud is a concern if it leads to leaks and smells.

Anything considered.

Otherwise I might consider a custom alloy one to put the problems to bed once and for all. Anyone know who could make one?

Chris  Bastow sourced aluminium petrol tanks some years ago.  I bought one and was easy to fit,  he may still have the contact.

I can PM Chris's number if you want it. He's been out of the business for a long time now though.

A contact would be great thanks Neil.

I could try to drill the offending stud out and replace it with a stainless bolt with the head inside the tank but, given the floating clamp ring, now gummed up by the tank resin, alignment may be tricky.

Want I don't want is to be left off the road should that job go wrong should I take it on.

Strangely though, there is no petrol smell from the tank for the moment.

There a company in Yorkshire that make that sort of thing , no experience of them myself but the standard looks very high

I have PM'd that number.

I'd have thought that you would have got away with one broken stud, though no more. You've put a lot of effort into that tank to scrap it, and a second hand one may not be any better?

Bit of a coincidence that those fabricators are in Yorkshire. Perhaps they are the ones Chris used?

Their work standard appears very high currently they are making really nice two piece alloy cam covers for rear drive Fiats, I have messaged them a few times asking if they will do same for Beta no news yet but fingers crossed!

Their work looks great, but presumably comes at a cost?

I don't know to much about them but the fiat cam cover is £165. Not cheap but then again not expensive really and it has the benefit of being in two pieces making access to the cam pulleys easier

I've added my name to the people enquiring about a version for the Beta. That would finish an engine bay off a treat.

Looks a nice thing it must be said and not too expensive really.

Nice piece of kit definitely. Will it fit the transverse engine though?

Just had a reply he is going to do one for Betas, a modified design to fit the transverse engine layout. i think its a good ldea as the original covers seem to be getting a bit crappy with age the ones I have are all a bit warped and marked. the ultimate choice would be an original early series alloy cover but those don't fit the taller 2 litre motors (as well as being hard to find)

Excellent news. I'll definitely be in the queue  for one.
