Title: Starting a 2000 ie that's been sitting a long time.
Post by: riverhead on May 25, 2015, 11:16:52 PM
Hi all
I'm going to try and start a ie engine that's been sitting for 4 years.
It's been exposed to the elements.
Any advice on how to go about starting it without doing damage or messing with the ecu for the injectors?
Thanks
Huw

no easy answer, pay attention to lubrication and make sure that the car cannot start before pressure has built up. The injection system could be problematic it's just down to luck really if nothing has seized up or not

Make sure that you can turn the engine by hand first (big spanner on the crank bolt). Also check that the cam belt is up to it, and isn't split or perished. Normally you'd look to replace this after such a long lay up.
